TTS, we did all of what you said, except throwing over fences, .. Grandma made the best treacle toffee and baking potatoes in the ash of the bonfire.. They were great nights and the following day, you couldn't see a thing due to all the lingering smoke from the night before..
Difference from then and now, fireworks were a lot smaller and not as dangerous... Most bonfires had parents in control, so no stupid happenings.. No one had cars back then, especially kids, so none of that insane behavior... It really was a far more innocent time back then,70 years ago, when I was little..
It's a very sad and different world now and I believe fireworks should not be sold to the public and only City, Towns to have organised Bonfires..
