General (General discussion, talk about anything.)
I see there are COSTCOs in Liverpool and Manchester. I can’t answer for the English stores, but here in the US my optician wanted $600.00 (£448) for a pair of glasses. From the opticians at COSTCO I got a much better pair, in four days, for $145.00. (£108) I bought an extra pair for $95.00. (£70). They filled the exact same prescription, of course, and measure your face for a good fit.
For those of you unfamiliar with Costco, they have their own testing labs to ensure quality. They accept returns with a smile. A picky friend of did not like the appearance of her glasses and changed them three times with no problem. Their service is first class. There is a small fee to join COSTCO; here it is $50.00 (£37).
Maybe worth a trip. Perhaps check them out online first.
COSTCO employees are among the best paid, and best looked after, in the retail business. COSTCO works on a flat 15% markup, included in your price, of course.
Take a shopping bag. Ice, too. You won't be able to resist their other bargains. The ice is for meats, fish, chicken...
