The 'allies' in World War 2 included Britain, France, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, India, the Soviet Union, China and the United States of America.

We, as a country, weren't on our own. We, therefore, didn't 'come out on top'. In fact, nobody did. Except, maybe, 'them men', and 'them men' will always come out on top because 'us men' look up to 'them men' as our leaders.
And 'them men' lead 'us men' because 'us men' don't know how to look after ourselves.
