A very good Monday to all.
A lovely sunny cloudy bright day here, after a damp start, 18C forecast.
A busy morning cleaning, I've blitzed the whole downstairs, a job well done.
The afternoon looks set fair, so a walk is in order, venue to be decided.

Marie is usually on first, so methinks she is on a trip out.
Mo is usually on a little later on Monday I've noticed, funny how you see a pattern in the week isn't it?
Mo and Vince will get loads, it's a high word count today.
Lizzie, enjoy the rain and lucky you for missing the destructive winds.
The start of our week of words, thank you

A very big hello again
Got back from the Skoda dealers about 4 o’clock, a 2 hour journey home.
We took the ordinary roads back because when we used the M56 / M6 route last time it took 2 hours, so it seems either way it’s a mither of a drive!!!!!!!! LOL
Anyroad, the car is fully serviced and valeted, unfortunately we asked them to check a noise out and it seems we need a new compressor for the climate control.
We had a new one fitted last October so it’s a bit worrying as it’s gone again so soon.
C’est la vie.
Mo, hope that Magnum hasn’t filled you up, I’ll be peeping around your begonias to see if you eat your tea LOL
Well done to Mo and Marie
Vince, I know you’ve had some medical stuff this week, best of luck.

Good Morning all.
Soz that I missed your afternoon post yesterday Mo.
Just having a lazy Saturday morning after my labours in the garden this week.
As well as deforesting our rear and side gardens, between me and our lovely next door neighbour is a tall hedge, so between us this week (mainly he) we have lowered it by about a foot, so I have been making loads of trips to the recycling centre at Little Hulton with all the green waste.
Tomorrow I pick up my new bike from Halfords.
I have been thinking about it for a while, anyroad on Thursday I thought just go for it.
It’s what is called a Hybrid bike, for use on the road but it can be used off road, but not the really rough tracks that Mountain bikes can go on.
So I’m hoping this opens up a new exercise regime.
The Bank Holiday weekend is set fair, sunny cloudy and warming up, 23C forecast for Monday, that should please Our Mo
Best of luck to Wigan Warriors in The Challenge Cup final at Wembley.
Have a great weekend folks.
Lizzie hope you’re having fun on your travels.
Replied: 26th Aug 2017 at 10:50

Hello Ray,good for you on getting a bike..Cliff was cycle mechanic at
Halfords for seven years before he retired,we've always had bikes..Cliff let
his go but I've still got mine..I haven't been on it for ages now since I
started with COPD,it's all up and downhill where we are..but I won't let it go
anywhere..I'm still hoping to win the Lotto so I can buy a cottage that isn't in
a hilly area..it's a dream of mine..my bike is lovely,pink and lilac..
Our youngest lad Ray has always loved a bike..some years ago he was seeing this girl and her parents lived in Harrogate..the first time he went he
stayed overnight, came back home the following day..the week after off he
went again but the phone rang..I said "How was your journey love"his reply
was ""I'm shattered,I'm back"..and that's the truth. Harrogate there and
back in one day.
I hope you enjoy your bike Ray..it's a lovely feeling to cycle down a country
lane when the suns out,and you can smell all the fields and hedgerows..
Nothing like it.

I had no idea you were cycling afficionados Mo, well done.
Wow, that is some serious ride to Harrogate and back.
I’ve not cycled for years, since my 30’s.
When our Kit was perhaps in her very early teens was the last time we rode together.
We have kept her bike, a lovely black Peugeot ladies model.
We are going to take it up to her in North Wales next time we visit.
As you say it’s quite liberating, especially riding down a country lane.
My plan is to try and keep off main roads as much as possible, they are dangerous places to be.
Of course the ultimate is to buy a bike rack and take it up Rivvy or some other nice area.
I am quite fit, I jog and walk, but I suspect I will have “jelly legs” for a few days when I start cycling.
Will let you know how I get on.

A big Monday hello to all.
A damp miserable but warm start to the day, but trying to brighten up as I type, 20C forecast for this arvo.
A very morning doing household chores, at least they're out of the way now.
This arvo we're having a trip to Wigan town centre, always a pleasant afternoon out.
You're absolutely right Mo, we do keep our brains active don't we, and long may it continue.
I really enjoy setting the Friday quiz and spend hours thinking of questions or searching t'internet for stuff.
Well done for starting us off Marie.

Vince, very best of luck with your recovery, hope you are well.
Lizzie, just viewed your photos, they are just stunningly beautiful.
The composition and perspective are perfect, you have a real artists eye, well done you
Thanks for starting our week's wordage

Hello all ,it's very warm outdoors today isn't it..Cliffs taken the car for a
respray..it's 20 years old but never let us down..solid and gets through it's
MOT every time..can't wait to see it either Wednesday or Thursday.
Ray guess what my youngest has got for my birthday (not saying when that
is though) are you ready..a UKULELE..was telling him all about watching
the documentary on Frank Skinner and how I enjoyed it..so he's ordered
one from the Sage..the only thing is though,I will have to cut my lovely long
nails that folk think are false, but a small price to pay eh!!
He's ordered the Soprano one..and I've picked bright green...

know that don't you.
Thank you once more our Lizzie, you're photos are great and make me just
long to be near the sea..heaven.xx

Vince good to see you back and hopefully recovering well.
That sounds awful all those stitches, hope you’re not in too much pain.
I bet you look a pretty sight, but hopefully long term you’ll get back to normal.
Take care.

Hiya Mo, sorry, only just seen your lunchtime post as we’ve not long got back from Wigan, Ive just posted a quick hello to Vince.
So pleased to hear you’re getting a uke, you’ll love it, I absolutely love mine.
You’re getting the best and most popular size too, the soprano is ideally suited to petite female hands and will be easy to fret the strings with less pressure needed than the bigger sizes.
I have a tenor size uke because I needed a wider fretboard because of my hands and also I was used to playing guitar.
If you can learn some basic chords you can start playing very quickly.
There are loads of tutorials on youtube and chord tables on t’internet.
If you can master the chords C, F and G7, you will be able to play loads of songs.
If you can add E minor and A minor and G, then the world is your lobster.
All the above chords are easy to do, you just memorise the chord “shapes”, no need to have any musical knowledge, having said that you may already be a musician.
I don’t think you would need to trim your nails much, and if you are right handed then there’s no need to trim your RH nails as you can strum the strings using your nails.
Also as you improve you can “finger pick” using your long nails, which is what guitar players do.
Let me know how you get on, but above all, enjoy.

A damp miserable day, 17C in Leyth this morning.
I was wondering when you get your uke Mo, I'm not trying to find out your birthday honest
Did you see my post of yesterday? ^^^^^^
I'm having to type this quickly and briefly as the monitor on our big desktop PC is about to pack in I'm sure.
It's crackling and the screen keeps going dark and then back on.
Well done for starting us off Marie.

Bet you can’t wait to start Mo.
Forgot to mention, the most important thing you need to do next is to learn to tune your uke.
I have a little electronic gubbins that clips to the headstock, the wooden bit at the top of the uke where the tuning pegs are.
You turn the tuning pegs and line a needle up with a marker on the electronic display.
Tomplum uses an app on his PC/phone.
If you didn’t want to spend any money (and why should you) there a re loads of tuning websites.
Try this one https://ukutuner.com/
I bet your Lee will sort you out
I hope you don’t think I’m fussing and interfering Mo.
The reason I’m telling you this stuff now is that we are off up to The Lakes on Saturday for a week, and after Friday night I will incommunicado as there is no wi-fi in our holiday cottage, boo hoo!!!!!!!

A very good day to all.
A dark brooding cloudy day here in Blighty, not what the weathermen forecast at all, 17C.
A very busy morning in the garden, trying to get jobs done before the hols.
I had a hearty breakfast of egg and beans to stoke myself up, and I worked straight through my lunchtime.
After a quick change at 2 o’clock we were out of the door and up to Bolton and then to Middlebrook for a laptop case for Susan.
Just settling down now after tea, and it’s Susan’s turn to wash up LOL
I am NOT budging tonight!!!!!!!!! No siree.
I will be OK for the cryptics at eight.
Don’t worry about coming on late Mo, I’ll hold the solutions back.
I bet your car will look fantastic with a new shiny bodywork, you’ve done well to keep it going all this time, you may as well look after it.

Hope you had a pleasant day out Marie.

A damp start and now a sunny cloudy changeable day, 16C.
A busy morning holiday prepping and taking green stuff to the tip.
The car's cleaned inside, as for the outside, I'm going to be lazy and take it to the local hand wash later.
Was thinking about you and your car Mo, I bet you can't wait to pick it up today, it'll be like a new one.
We've decided our Skoda Yeti is our last one (for a long time anyway), we've spent a fortune on cars over the years, but I've always had to travel a long way to work, so a new reliable one was essential.

I am not looking forward to having no wi-fi, I practically live on me lappy.
I'll get The Daily Telegraph every day and do the crossword, that'll keep me occupied
Just to tell you that tonight's quiz is as normal.

A big Hello again to all.
A cloudy but pleasant day here in Blighty, 16C this morning.
Hope everybody is well
Well back to Earth with a bang this morning after me jollydays LOL
A good week was had despite the changeable weather.
We got three really good walks in, and on the mixed afternoons we mooched in the shops and bought walking gear, it’s called SKI-ing, Spending the Kids Inheritance LOL
I have to say I missed not being on line last week, but I didn’t half sleep better through not staring at a screen all night.
I think I spend too much time peeping and posting.
I’m a little early after a busy morning in the back garden.
ness-sushi-mesh-unmesh-issue.
I have left some for Mo and Vince.
Well done to Marie.
Hope you are keeping busy Our Mo.
I have seen all your last weeks postings, so I’m up to date
Lizzie, so good to be back.
Sounds like your weather is not for settling down, but can’t be bad if folk are wearing shorts and tee shirts.
Anyroad, wrap up warm for your Arctic blast, brrrrrrr
Thanks for our Monday wordage

Mo. just re-reading your yesterday's post.
It's only recently that I learned that bread is not good for ducks and the like.
It looks like good advice is being given.
Never thought of rice as a food for bird wildlife, but it is a type of grass I suppose and ducks and geese graze.
I also forgot to wish you a Happy Birthday for last week.
Sounds like you had a good day out with a lovely meal and pressie.

working but still wish I had one..my own that is.
Ray when we were at the Southport marina last week people wer feeding
the swans with bread, but a motive there said it isn't the best thing to feed
them, rice, oats and seeds were the order of the day,so Dave took a bag full of seeds and I of course rice..the pigeons also loved it...we'd never seen as
many swans ducks and pigeons..really enjoyed it.

Ahhh Mo, that’s nice, bless
Glad you had a nice Birthday treat, Owd Dave is a generous sort isn’t he.
I passed my driving test in 1967, like you, first time, I would be twenty and not yet married.
We ran two cars until about 4 years ago, it was great for the convenience, but 2 lots of servicing, motor insurance, road tax, cleaning, spare parts……….etc.
We manage very well with the one now.
I’ve stopped putting bread out for the birds in our garden because of concern that it might do them harm.
The birds have stopped feeding off my little feeding station in the front garden.
I think it’s because I’ve ripped up the trees and bushes down the side of the garden, they used to hide in them and then nip for a quick feed and back to hide.
I think I’ve done myself a thick ‘un LOL

A busy morning in the back garden.
Just having a chicken sarnie lunch doing the words and this arvo a walk round Haigh Hall Plantations is on the cards, not done that for quite a while.
They have a very troublesome new fangled parking payment system in which you take a ticket to raise the barrier, then pay on return and use the same ticket to raise the exit barrier, only trouble is it doesn’t usually work and you end up phoning for help.
C’est la vie.

Well, blimey, what a day here.
We’re having the back and side garden flagged, and the workmen have descended this morning.
The garden is half lawn and half concrete, so today they are digging up the concrete with a breaker, the noise has been relentless.

A big hello to all.
A cloudy but warm day here in Blighty, 18C.
We’ve had a trip to Leyth this morning to sort the money for the garden work.
They’ve closed our Nat West bank in Howfen, hence the trip.
This arvo we’ll do our big shop at Sainsies.
Just glad to get away, it’s like a WW2 bomb site here LOL
The whole site will be cleared today, leaving room for 18 tonnes of hardcore which has just arrived and been dumped on my drive.
Thanks for your comments, and I agree it will be worth the hassle.

Hello everybody.
A bright sunny cloudy day here in Blighty, 14C forecast.
Well, it was rain stopped play yesterday, plus some additional drain work which I wanted doing, so the flaggers are back again for what I sincerely hope will be the last day.
I am well and truly brassed off!!!!!!! LOL
I’ve skipped cardiac class today because of the work being done, Susan doesn’t like being left alone.
We are starting our winter routine today with Susan attending her family history class in Bolton.
I run here in and pick her up hence the late post.

Hello everybody.
A pleasant sunny cloudy day here in Blighty, 15C forecast.
We’ve both been for our flu jabs this morning.
Well the flaggers left about 5-30 yesterday and did a very hurried clean up.
They have left us in a terrible mess, but in truth I was glad to get them off site.
Instead of doing the words over lunch I’ve had to get some rainwater drainage parts urgently and then worked through lunch to start the clean up.
I’m only just sitting down now after tea, and I’m not budging LOL
Thankfully tonight’s quiz is in the can, hope you’ve got your brains in fettle Mo, and maybe Marie can post with no problems tonight.
I know what you mean with the leaves Mo, we have a similar problem to you, in that we have a woods in front of us and we get loads of leaves.
I don’t know which is best, leaving them down and doing one big clean up or sweeping them up regularly.
Well done you two clever clogs
I’ve managed to squeeze a few more out.

Just settling down after tea.
I’m sat in my favourite place, in the dining room, in my armchair with my lappy, and currently watching The Great Family Cookdown, I watch all the cookery programmes.
You were absolutely right Mo, we didn’t get a walk in.
We got ready for a walk and just as we were setting out it started to rain.
We headed for Horwich anyway, but ended up having a mooch in Tesco.
Good to see you getting stuck into the gardening, I bet you’re a bit tidier now.
Our front lawns are in a dreadful state with last weeks work.
They are full of deep ruts from the digger and wheelbarrows and there’s sand, cement and chippings everywhere, absolute nightmare.
Sorry to hear about your hand Mo, I’ve heard of that condition before, I think the fingers are clenched inwards aren’t they?, anyroad, I’m sure they will sort you out.
It’s great gettin’ owd LOL
Marie, I hope you had a good day out in spite of the rain, it’s been awful hasn’t it?

I’ve just come in from outside, and yes Mo, I am sat in my armchair with my lappy.
It’s Susan’s turn for the tea, so I am not budging.
I don’t think this clean up will be done in one go, I expect I’ll be taking the muck and stuff away in successive turns.
Hope you got all your leaves up, I’ve decided this year I will do it regularly instead of one big sweep up.
I tell you what Mo, we had a talk last night on Lawrence Isherwood who was a successful and prolific artist (that said, he died with only £259 in the bank), and he is not a patch on you as an artist.
I would imagine trying to get waves looking realistic and dynamic is a very difficult thing to achieve.
I’m sure it will be a cracking piece of art.

Vince,I know the feeling....some years ago I'd picked my dog up,when she jumped down my finger was still in a metal ring on her collar and took the
top of my finger off..had it stitched back on..within a few weeks I noticed
three black marks coming out of where it had been stitched,yes..they were
stitches, the point is they could easily cause infection...to cap it all before all
that ,when I went back to have the dressing taken off the Doctor asked me
where my splint was,I told him the nurse had taken it off the first time I went
to have the dressing changed..he hit the roof and threatened her with the
sack, but I now have a permanently bent finger..nowadays they would be suing them to the hilt..mind you,it comes in handy when I crochet .lol.

Ray,you probably know this already but Lawrence lived right facing the
RAEI,and his Brother Gordon had a shoe shop facing Pooles pie shop in Wallgate,he was a lovely man..my Mam used to have a soft spot for him
( don't think my Dad .knew though)
Thank you for your comment on my art Ray..but I don't think any ordinary
artist thinks they're good really though..have I already mentioned this Ray..
but have you seen Ronnie Woods (Rolling Stones) work he's brilliant..how
nice it must be to afford to have a studio..instead of keep moving everything
away when you've finished, then bringing it all out again to start again..
Still ne-er mind eh!!!
Replied: 10th Oct 2017 at 17:40

Mo, I knew next to nothing about Lawrence Isherwood until last night.
The man who runs HHS knew him well, he first met him as an 8 year old when Lawrence was still working in the shoe shop at the top of Greenhough St.
He used to take shoes in for repairs and Lawrence would talk to him about his paintings.
Lawrence came from a quite well to do family and eventually gave up working in the shoe shop to become a full time artist.
It’s a pity he ended up as a lonely alcoholic and died in almost poverty.
I have say that the jury is out as to whether I like his work.
He didn’t have one particular style and some of his work is really crude.
He was a friend of LS Lowry and even had a period where he was doing the equivalent of matchstalk men.
Yes, you have mentioned Ronnie Woods before, his artwork is outstanding, especially his portraits and paintings of the band.
I think you are being very modest about your own work, you are very accomplished.
Take care.

A big hello to all.
A cloudy but warm morning, 18C.
We bought a carpet shampooer on Wednesday, so I've assembled it this morning ready for use.
Beltin' bit of kit, looking forward to giving our carpets a new lease of life.
I continue to clean up the drive, it's going to be a long process.
Mo, was thinking about you, the weatherman has promised us 21C heat by Monday, it maybe warm enough to sit in Owd Daves garden with your Magnum
rosily-hobo-holy-boil-broil-biro-shoo.
I found that combination of letters strangely hard today.
Loads more for all.
I bet Marie is on another trip out.
Lizzie, sounds like a great day out with a nice lunch too.
You certainly are good neighbours.
We are due to get new neighbours on one side of us.
The previous owners have said they are a nice couple, so we will see.
Thanks as ever

A big Monday hello to all.
I've spent the morning in the garden, and as you say Mo, the sky is wierd.
The sun when it broke through the gloom was a yellowy pink colour to my eyes, most unusual.
It seems Ireland is copping the worst of it, with South West England and South Wales expected to be most affected here.
Just on the One O'Clock news now, flights cancelled at Manchester Airport.
I certainly am not looking forward to it.
Hope everybody had a good weekend.
We may risk a quick walk down to Hindley Cemetery this arvo, then it's back home and batten down the hatches.
Please take care and stay safe won't you.
Replied: 16th Oct 2017 at 13:05

A big hello to all.
Hope everybody is well.
Well we survived yesterday.
It was not half as bad as predicted, although other parts of the country fared worse.
Today is bright sunny and settled, so we should be glad of that.
I will hopefully this arvo, do the last mowing of the lawns, and then maybe a good walk in, time and energy permitting.
Don't think it will be the weather for sitting in Owd Dave's garden Mo, but you can still enjoy your Magnum.
Anyroad, enjoy the rest of the day folks
Replied: 17th Oct 2017 at 13:06

Dave is on a diet so it's just me ..but the pugs have to have a taste as well.
We've been clearing greenery up since we came home..there's so much to
sort out after Summer.
We had very wild weather here last night..but three poor souls didn't wake
up this a.m did they..very sad.
Love to you all..💜 xx

Hiya Mo.
As you say, very sad about the deaths due to the storm.
Hope you enjoyed your Magnum.
I, like you, have just come in from the garden, I’m shattered.
I got my lawns cut and edged (hopefully the last time this year), and I patched my damaged lawn up with new seed, the lorry that took the soil and concrete away the other week had a grab on which made great big holes, not very pleased about that, I’m very particular about my lawns, anyroad, time will reverse things.
Hope you got your tidying up done.
I’ve not got the energy for a walk, so I’m sat in my favourite spot on my lappy, and I’m not budging.
Take care.

Hiya Mo, we are just off to Wigan, so just doing a quick post.
Our carpet shampooer is a Vax upright model W85-PP-T we bought it from Currys PC World.
We originally were going to buy a lightweight model, being that I'm not exactly Charles Atlas at my age LOL , but in the end we decided to go for a machine that would do the job, so we chose a bigger more powerful model with a whopping 1200 watt motor.
It is, I have to say quite heavy, but using it, ie pushing it backwards and forwards is easy.
You fill it up with clean water, and the dirty water is collected in a separate tank.
Very pleased with the results on our dining room carpet which is a light beige colour and shows up all the marks of wear and tear.

A very good Monday to all.
A bright cloudy sunny day here in Blighty, 11C, but feeling very cold.
A busy morning doing household chores, glad it's done.
We will get a good walk in this arvo, I need to put my thick Winter walking coat on today.
Hope everybody had a good weekend.
I never knew you could mix oils and acrylics Mo, you learn something new every day, anyroad, I'm certain it will be a cracker.
Well done to Marie for starting us off as usual.
Hope you are getting over your recent ops Vince.

Lizzie, thanks for our new thread, I think it was needed.
Hope you had a good weekend.
Hopefully the rain will do your garden good.
Thanks as ever
