Hello everybody, a very good day to you
A beautiful pleasant day here in Blighty, 15C going to Mozzers this morning, 17C to 19C forecast. Apparently we're pulling in some warm air from "Le Continent".

I sometimes get a real '"downer" on life and can be quite depressed, but today has raised my spirits. I'm going to clean the dining room and our little study which is Susan's "bolt hole" in the evening and then I'm going to go for long walk wrapped up with me I-pod on for some music, maybe Steeleye Span or Fairport Convention or Mike Oldfield and stride out very fast and walk away all my worries and anxieties, fabulous.

Well done to Marie
Loads more for Our Mo, and welcome back Vince, good to hear from you again

I've found typing this today quire theraputic

Lizzie, I bet you're "back in the old routine" now, but I'm sure you've got more breaks planned for the future hopefully. Enjoy every minute of your retirement won't you
Thanks for our daily mental workout

Hello all ..just got back in..first I'm glad our
Vince is back with our happy little family.

Ray,I would never take you for a 'sometime'
depressive person at all..you come across as being
jovial all the time..why not try one of those SAD
lamps.they boost the seratonin in the brain.
and speaking of Mike Oldfield,it was only last
night we watched him 'again'.

I only have a couple left now so here we go.
sear,smarm, smear,mess,manse,masseur,mars,rues,

Well our Lizzie,we're all back together now aren't
we..and hope you feel refreshed after your break.
thanks again.xx

Posted by: raymyjamie (4558)  Report abuse
Mo I'm not a true depressive who slips into dark and murky moods, but I sometimes I lose my "cheery" edge and things get me down. I'm pretty sure I don't have S.A.D. as it's usually events, happenings or just general life stuff that gets me down.
Anyroad I had a lovely walk this arvo, with some Beatles and Mike Oldfield blasting on me i-pod for a good hour and it cheered me up no end.

There was a great programme on Friday night on BBC4 at 9 o'clock called "Tubular Bells - The Mike Oldfield Story", well worth watching. You can still catch it on BBC i-player.

Take care Mo

Posted by: momac (7579)  Report abuse
Ray,I think a lot of people have low spirits..I know I do,
especially at Christmas time..I don't like dark nights..and
similarly have to have music to cheer me up..and that was the
same Mike Oldfield programme we watched last night...sorry Ray
not a Beatles fan ha ha.

A very good day to all
A miserable damp day here in Blighty with the rain just easing off as I type.

The weather is not inspiring us to walk, so we're going for a nice drive into Yorkshire We'll go through New Hey, Denshaw, Delph, Marsden, Slaithewaite (pronounced Sla-wit), into Huddersfield. Then back over another 'over-the-tops' route back to New Hey and 'wom'. I love Yorkshire.

Mo,I can't believe you don't like The Beatles, still we can't all be the same. it would be boring. Still I'm pleased you're a Mike Oldfield fan, so good on yer

Flagstone (I think)-flag-goat-gone-goes-glen-nags-sage-slag-song-tags

Any more folks?

Lizzie, you're absolutely right, music is theraputic. I find myself firmly rooted in the sixties and seventies as regards 'pop', but I do like Classical music and of course 'folk'.
This morning while I was making our 'tea' I had Paul McCartney's "Ecce Cor Meum" on. I've not played it many times, so it's still slightly unfamiliar.
It's a huge choral piece with a full choir and orchestra and not what you'd normally expect fron Macca.
Big thanks Our Lizzie

A damp start but turning bright and sunny here in Blighty, 16C.

I've taken Susan to the opticians in Hindley this morning, thankfully her prescription has not changed, although she is having a new pair 'made up' with the correct focal length for playing her new piano.

Hope you get fixed up with your lights Mo

Just poppin' on to say me and Susan have made a last minute decision to go to the Trafford Centre for the day out. For Lizzie's benefit, the Trafford Centre is a huge shopping mall in Stretford Manchester and is always a nice place to go to.

We're looking for some kitchen stuff and bits and bobs.

We'll have a nice sandwich lunch and a decent coffee in 'Cafe Nero'.

I'll pop on later and see how you've got on and to see if I can add any words.

Just popping on to say hello again.
A pleasant and fruitful day was had by Mr and Mrs RMJ.

We managed to find what we were looking for, some plastic pans which you can use for steaming veg in the microwave. We've decided that at our age we can' t be doing with boiling 'pons' for vegetables so microwaving is the way forward.
We also got a bottle stopper for Susan's wine, it takes her ages to get through a bottle, not so me!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ha ha
Also bought a gismo which I saw Jamie Oliver using last night on "Jamie's Money Saving Meals". It's a cutter which you push down on an apple and it cores and cuts into segments all in one action, beltin' for me with me arthritic digits

We got our Kit's birthday card a cracking "Art Deco" design (she's 36 next month) methinks some mickey taking will be called for ie middle aged etc ha ha

We got a brilliant World Atlas from WH Smiths for £4-80, it was £6 and we have a 20% discount card, so made up.

I had a pastrami, cheese and gherkins on rye sandwich a huge 50g bag of crisps and a Starbucks coffee sat in the car and I managed to spill the soddin' coffee all over the car dash and seats and all down me pants, I'm a dozy so and so!!!!!!!!! ha ha

Well done with the words, I don't think I can add, and I'm pretty tired now.
Going to have a bath and a few "drinky poos" later on

Well look at me wittering on!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ha ha

Take care all

Sounds like a great day out Lizzie, you're so lucky being by the sea.

Hi ya Mo, looking forward to 'experimenting' with me new playthings.
We've decided to increase our 'veggie' meals'.

You're an absolute star Mo, baking for other folk.

Our next door neighbour is a real garden enthusiast and grows fruit and veg. He gives us loads of his produce, so Susan makes absolutely crackin' jam with his fruit and we give him most of it back. We're both watching our sugar intake as Susan was found to have a high sugar level in her blood. she has cut out nearly all the sugary things she was eating mainly 'bought' muesli and cereals and has lost 9lb in nearly as many weeks, absolutely amazing.

A very good day to all
A lovely bright sunny day here in Blighty, 16C, a real tonic after yesterday.

We nearly didn't go to Mozzers this morning after TV chef Hugh Fernley-Whittingstal's expose of the things supermarkets get up to last night.
The programme is called "Hugh's War on Waste" and shows how supermarkets insist that farmers produce cosmetically perfect crops, ie perfectly cylindrical carrots, cucumbers and vegetables with no kinks in etc. All produce which doesn't meet their strict standards is either thrown away, ploughed back into the land or sometimes used for animal feed. An absolute disgrace, and Morrisons were particularly guilty, they caused a family farm to close down.

We are going to look for a 'Farm Shop' to buy our fruit and veg needs.

Finding today's words hard :-

Bishopric-bishop-biro-crisp-oribi-rich.

Well donr to Marie
Mo and Vince will get loads more

Lizzie, I couldn't be doing with the temperatures you get, but at least you're 'geared up' for it with air con etc. any road enjoy your slightly cooler temps today

doing to the supermarkets re their milk etc..

is an elderly couple (Forgot their names)who will
take any stray animal in feed it give it anti bios
if needed, their garage is full of animal food tins
biscuits you name it they have it..all out of
their pensions..RSPCA used to subsidise thgem but stopped because they were taking too many animals
in..I sent a letter to Asda, was advised to rather
thanks email, pleading with them to send any
tinned food or biscuits to them instead of
throwing it all away..I had no reply at all..how
mean is that!!this couple are now in debt..but
still caring for strays..there you go.!!!

We are going to step back and assess our shopping needs in the next few weeks, as far as I'm concerned the supermarkets are 'bad boys' with everybody they deal with. They pressurise their suppliers and force costs down so they hardly make any profit.

I thought I was on the mend but I stupidly went out for a walk on Friday afternoon, it was cold and damp and I started to feel unwell on Friday evening.
I usually ail for nothing and am fit and healthy and I've not had a cold since I retired 4 years ago but I'm 69 next month and its made me realise I'm not the young man I was who could shake a bug off in a couple of days. I feel quite vulnerable,
When I went for my last 12 monthly health check I was under 10 stone in weight and the health nurse told me I was at the limit of weight loss and if I caught any sort of viral infection my body wouldn't be able to fight it.
I am going to take your very wise advice and have the flu jab, if I can't fight a cold what chance would I have with flu?
Today I am much improved and revived, I have not left the house all weekend and Susan has fed me some good nutritious food. I intend to stay indoors again today and try to get back to normal tomorrow.

I will do Our Lizzie's anagrams later on.
Take care.

A very good day to all
Quite a pleasant day here in Blighty, bright earlier but clouding over now, 11C.
I've just had a lovely restful morning watching TV and peeping on WW and WR.

It's a pity that most TV coverage is of the dreadful events of Paris on Friday night.

Well done with the words

Lizzie, Hope you are keeping well and have had a good weekend.
Thanks for the start of our weekly wordage

Hi Mo, it sounds like you've had a busy day.
That's one job I hate, clearing leaves. We have a woods in front of our house, so our drives get covered inches deep. Some people like to clear them up gradually week by week, I tend to clear them up in one go when the trees are bare.

Thanks for your kind wishes, Susan is not well, but I'm looking after her, making brews and doing all the cooking and washing up.
Cleaning is on hold for the foreseeable future, we're both resting and building our strength up.

Susan is a little improved and depending on how she feels after lunch is suggesting we do our "big" weekly shop this arvo. We have "fell out" with Mozzers for various reasons, but they currently they have an offer of "spend £60 and get £20 off" your shop which is difficult to turn down. We think long term we will return to Sainsburys where we have shopped for years.

A miserble wet day here in Blighty, 11C.

I tried to get a walk in this morning but it was "rain stopped play" after 15minutes.

I've spent the rest of the morning "on line" looking at ukuleles. My painful arthritic digits can no longer handle a guitar, so I thought the lighter nylon strings of a "uke" might be OK as I love music.
I may or may not get one.

Hi Mo, ha ha I'm not really a flirt, I'm quite shy with women actually. and worship them from afar!!!!!!!!!!

I'm just back from me walk, and Susan is making our 'tea', we share the 'teamaking' duties. Susan has roasted a chicken while I've been out, (I know it's not your thing to eat meat) which we're having with carrots and turnip mash, brussels sprouts and jacket spuds, and horror of horrors 'bought' gravy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's actually good quality, Morrison's "Signature" range.

I was wondering where Marie has got to also, I hope everything is OK.

I'm going to have some 'tea' around five o'clockish , settle down with some peeping and posting on WW/WR, a bit of 'catch up' telly on me lappy later, then a few scoops.
Simple pleasures for a simple lad

Take care my love

Hello everyone. Well done with the words. I have been away for two days. It's not been as cold today. I'm like you Maureen, this winter seems harder to me. Still, as long as we can keep getting out.

Posted by: raymyjamie (4558)  Report abuse
Mo, your "tea" sounds delish

I hadn't realised that you ate fish, that makes you a pescatarian I think if I've got my word right (us wordists eh )
I fully understand the many reasons that people choose not to eat meat, animal welfare, health concerns, moral, ethical concerns etc.
It does concern me that some extreme diets can affect health due to loss or lack of nutriments.

An example is our Kit's boyfriend who is a vegan. So apart from not eating meat or fish, he doesn't eat any animal by-products also. So no cheese or cow's milk.
He is terribly underweight and is being medically supervised and monitored.
When he goes to our Kits she tries to "feed him up", but that's only one or two days a week. He lives on his own and I always think you are less likely to make yourself a decent meal in that situation.

Posted by: raymyjamie (4558)  Report abuse
Marie, welcome back, hope you had a nice break

Posted by: momac (7579)  Report abuse
Ray..I understand what you're about..I've always
been into nutrition..and Cliffs type two diabetic but doesn't need any medication so things are in
hand,I have a couple of problems but my blood
pressure is always spot on..you wouldn't believe
what health foods are in my cupboard..I don't believe in the vegan diet personally..but everyone
to their own.

Posted by: raymyjamie (4558)  Report abuse
Absolutely right Mo, me and Susan are well into nutrition.
The only thing I find annoying is when so called "experts" change their advice.
A good example is eggs. For years, I pretty much avoided them because they were deemed to be full of cholesterol, it now turns out that it's the "good" cholesterol and you can eat them on a regular basis.

I have to be really strict with my diet because of my heart attack, so no processed meats, burgers, sausages, bacon etc, also limit the "red" meat we eat, just twice a week. I live on chicken, fish, veg and salads, I try to eat some fruit but truth be told it's not my favourite foodgroup. Also we only eat wholemeal bread, wholewheat pasta and wholegrain brown rice.

Whilst most of my body functions are falling into decline, my "digestive transit" remains perfectly fully functional ha ha

Posted by: momac (7579)  Report abuse
Ray,my Dad had trouble with his ticker as a result of
Rheumatic Fever as a child,at the time I kept trying to wean
him off butter..the so called experts said it was bad for you
but he loved butter just as I do..now they're saying don't eat
anything else because of the bad trans fats in Margarines..I
often think..me poor Dad..I didn't need to have moidered him.
My parents photo is on Album Ray under the name McGovern..now
isn't that a fine name.

Posted by: raymyjamie (4558)  Report abuse
It is a fine name indeed Mo
Just taken a look at your photos. Like somebody has commented, your Mum and Dad were a fine looking couple. There's also a really good picture of your brother who you've mentioned before. I can remember dressing like them two.

I was slightly unsure if you meant "moidered" as in "mithered" or as in the American New York accent "murdered" ha ha
I'm sure it's "mithered" honest

Posted by: MarieM (4478) Report abuse
In the 70s you hadn't to have more than two eggs a week. Now you can have one a day. They said use Vegetable Oil instead of fat, now Vegetable Oil is taboo. Butter was bad for you now it's good. They don't just shift a bit, they go to the complete opposite. I think, everything in moderation.

Ray, been through Westhoughton today. Did you get your ukelela.

Maureen and Vince, Wallgate Streets and Families started by Billy Green who I was told had died. What I want to do is go through the thread from the beginning at my leisure, in bits and pieces, and read through the whole lot again but I don't know how to get to the beginning. Can you help.

Posted by: momac (7579)  Report abuse
Marie..in the search box at the top of this page,
type Wallgate Streets and families..and you'll see
it.

Maureen, thanks I have got it but there were two threads. How would I get to the second one. I'll ask you again when I've read all the first thread.

A very good Saturday to all
As Mo says it's a miserable wet gloomy day here in Blighty, 12C.
I think this is the third or fourth Saturday on the bounce where we've not been able to get our Rivvy walk in, thoroughly brassed off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Spent a lazy morning watching BBC's Saturday Kitchen with James Martin, I LOVE all the cookery programmes on TV.

Hope everybody is well

Just belatedly reading your post Mo.
I like you am thoroughly fed up with being "stuck in" the house. We seem to have been confined inside forever. I normally (to an extent) don't mind certain aspects of Winter. It's a time for doing "indoorsy" things, certainly going on WW and WR, sorting out old photos, doing me crosswords, having a read, watching "good" TV and best of all listening to music, but there's only so much of that you can do before you crave just being outside with fresh air on your face, especially in Mo's Lambo with the soft top down ha ha

Just to cheer myself up earlier, I thought, we've got Christmas to look forward to in the next few weeks and then and then head off into the "New Year" celebrations.

Then what will 2016 bring?, who knows.

I look forward to Easter, the first sign of Spring , and next year's holidays.

Posted by: momac (7579)  Report abuse
Ray..Winter really gets me down..there's so much
to do when it's lighter and warmer..and I don't
watch a lot of TV..not so bad when I have a
painting on the go..how on earth do they survive
in Greenland.

You can understand why people get SAD (seasonally affected disorder) can't you Mo.
Lack of sunlight can make people ill.

Anyroad me and Susan have just come back from an hours walk locally, and I feel much better for it.

We're having A Chilli Con Carne made with soya mince and wholegrain rice for tea, so hopefully when I get that inside me I'll be set up for the evening.

It is awful, Winter but I have just seen on the news about the poor people in the Lake District who have had their houses flooded with sewerage and had power cuts and all sorts. It said on the news it will be six months before they can get back to normal. I don't think they will be able to get insurance. What a nightmare. I am not moaning again about bad weather. It has been quite a nice day today.

Posted by: momac (7579)  Report abuse
Marie,I've just watched that..it would be terrible to have
your house, furniture, and belongings under all that water..plus no power, but as one old lady said..why ..when
they've had the problem before do they not build the power
stations higher..God bless em,at least we can sleep in our own
beds tonight.

A very good Monday to all
An absolutely lovely sunny bright day here in Blighty, 13C.
So glad to see the end of all the rain we've been having.

The Lake District (our favourite part of the World) is having a dreadful time with nearly 300mm of rain in 24 hours. Carlisle, Keswick and Cockermouth particularly affected with severe flooding.
I just have the news on TV as I'm typing and the BBC weatherman has confirmed it's the wettest 24 hours on record, 341mm, and there's another 30-50mm in the future forecast.
We've done very well here in the Bolton/Wigan area.

Me and Mrs RMJ hope to get a walk in up Rivvy this arvo.

Well done with the words everybody, it's impossible for me to add any more.

Lizzie, I couldn't possibly imagine the heat you're experiencing, get that AC on and don't move!!!!!!!.
It seems we (UK and OZ) are experiencing extremes of World weather.
Take care

Well, yesterday RMJ was soixante-neuf, sixty blinkin' nine, I'm dreading next year

Was it a good day, well mixed. We had a lovely relaxing day and had a nice drive over the Pennines round Blackburn and Haslingden in the afternoon followed by a sirloin steak evening dinner with a glass of Spanish red.

BUT, we lost both my laptop and our big desktop computer to some as yet undiagnosed problem. I've managed to fix my lappy, but the main one is unusable.
Also my headphones packed in and my mouse would'nt work, which turned out just to be the battery, all on the same day!!!!!!!!!!

A very good day to all
Another miserable cool day here in Blighty, 8C.

Done the "big shop" at Sainsburys in Leyth this morning.
I treated myself to a Kate Bush CD called "The Whole Story", all of her hits are on it, and only £5, I'm a right cheapskate ha ha

We're going to have a leisurely afternoon and at 5-40 me and Susan are at the doctors for our flu jabs, not looking forward at all!!!!!!!!!!!!
We were talking to people at Hindley History Society last night and there were tales of aching joints and swollen arms after the jab, we'll have to waut and see.

cordoned it all off.,there's a film somewhere of
a man swimming on the approach to Asda..Newtown is
closed off,and more..
But we're having nothing compared to the people of
Cumbria and all the areas around there..they've
had a rotten Christmas..I can't imagine what it's
like to have your house furnishings etc flooded

A big hello to all
A pleasant sunny day here in Blighty, the "calm before the storm" if the weather forecasters are to be believed.

I love this period between Christmas and new Year, very restful.
We usually have a leisurely morning, a walk in the afternoon, followed by a "turkey based" evening meal ha ha and then TV and bed, beltin' .

Well done with the words Vince

yurt-your-tour-cacao-occur.

Our Mo will get some I'm sure

Lizzie, Sounds like a brilliant Christmas day and so different from a "UK" Xmas
I think I've supped some wine from the Barrosa valley!!!!!!!!!!! ha ha
Thanks as ever

A big hello to all
A cloudy but not too wet day here in Blighty, it seems Storm Frank has not been as bad as expected here in the Wigan/Bolton area, but has caused all sorts of problems elsewhere. Dumfries and Croston in Lancashire both in the lunchtime news. It seems the River Douglas is in full flow, hope it doesn't affect Wigan Town.

Hope everybody is well and enjoying the Christmas break

Loads more for Mo and Vince
I wonder when Marie will join us?

Lizzie, hope you're enjoying the Christmas break and taking it easy.
It's blinkin' awful here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Enjoy your Summer.

A cloudy day here in Blighty, 7C.

Just made some parsnip and spinach soup "A la Nigella Lawson", quite nice but the parsnip was a bit overpowering, will change the ratios next time.

Bowton are playing at home this arvo, it's a blinkin' nightmare round Horwich, so we may have change of walks today, venue to be decided.

Mo, I forgot to mention, I did an "end of year quiz" last night over on WR.
I'm leaving it "open" for a few days, so if you fancy a bash some time over the weekend you're very welcome.
This of course is for all of our little group and indeed any Wigan Worlders who may be peeping.

Happy New Year everyone. My brain is not working yet. I have looked through what you have done while I have been away. Well done and thanks Lizzie.

I have looked at the videos of the floods in Wigan. I couldn't believe it. Martland Mill, Asda and Robin Park shut. Ince, Hindley and Platt Bridge but at least it's not been as bad as those poor souls in Cumbria and Yorkshire. I don't think I could cope with that and being evacuated from your home and then all the cleaning.
