I can remember things from when I was little but can't remember what I did yesterday.

Isn't it scary.. I used to be really good at spelling, but I am forgetting how to spell a lot of even ordinary words.. I don't like this forgetting thing at all....

This week, I've been in Spain for six days doing a roof. I've mixed 3 tons of concrete and carried it, in buckets, up a scaffold onto a 5 metre high 'beam and pot' roof. Laid the concrete and then carried about two tons of Arabic clay tiles up the scaffold and laid half of them. All by myself, and I'm 58, NOT old!

58 isn't old, I will be 72 next month and consider myself to be older, but not old... That said, there are things I could do with ease at 58 that I struggle with these days..
Being active is Key to staying active in your later years, as long as you are lucky enough to stay free from ' accidents or illness'.....
So be careful going up and down those ladders and scaffolding Tonker..

Last week I needed to renew my travel insurance? Being 76 there is now a premium to pay but I don't feel old nor do I have any ailments or take any medication. Do they believe me,I often wonder? Of course they do there are many other fortunate silver tops.

And I'll be back again next Wednesday, in Mora, up and down, carrying even more concrete. I might even finish it this time, if not, I'll be back there in November. And I'll still be 58!
I just hope it doesn't rain!
I say this, having lost my dad at the age of 60, to a heart attack. I remember him at my age, and he was a lot older than I am. If you know what I mean?

Tonker,
I know what you mean. I am 66 but I don't feel that. When I think back to when I was young people of 66 seemed older. Hope that makes sense.

I know what you mean broady. Looking at photos of my granny when she was ten years younger than I am now, it's remarkable how things have changed

I considered myself reasonably fit because I walk every afternoon and evening and attend a cardiac class.
Last Friday I went to the gym, not been for 12 months, and did the treadmill, rowing machine and lifted some light weights.
Woke up Saturday morning with aching knees and my back "gone"(it still is)
So my dilemma is, do I continue going and hope I overcome this problem, or do I accept that I'm past it.
I am 70 in December.

Ray, I'm not a Dr.. but to me it sounds like you were a bit too enthusiastic at the Gym..
I know I tend to try and prove to myself I can still do the things I did when I was younger, (I will be 72 next month ), usually with not the desired results..
So you have to wait for your back to get better, then go back to being active, but not to push yourself too much.. being active is Key !!!

That sounds like good logical advice Jouell
You've got me down to a tee, yes I do tend to overdo things, pretending I'm the thirty year old me
I need to do cardiac exercises as I had a heart attack some years ago.
Thanks again
