Family business
Mainly the adults!
Way back in the 50's and early 60's I can remember family and friends get togethers, usually over the Christmas period.
There was always a close knit adults discussion going on at the kitchen sink when all the adults pitch in to wash and dry the dishes ( no dishwashers then).
The chat was in low key and usually kept away from the kids...
"your lad is growing up fast, has he got a girlfriend yet ?"
" my lass is growning fast, she will make someone a lovely wife one day"
" I see suchabody is courting, nothing good will come of that, she could do better"
"Our neibours lad is a bit of a bugger, he will be getting some young girl in trouble soon"
" That one down the road, you know who I mean, bit of a floozy, I reckon her daughter will go the same way, three kids before she's twenty!"
And so the chat went on until the dishes were washed, dried and put away.
I used to just stay within earshot, pretending to be canyoning in my colouring book but taking all in.
Such magical days
