What’s the point of putting RL players on report?

Started by: wigvet (3548)

So New Zealand duo Issac Luke and Jeremy Smith have withdrawn their challenges against their suspensions after their foul deeds in last weeks game

Luke was going to contest a two-match ban for an illegal leg break action on scrum-half Rangi Chase - I for one have never seen this in any rugby game before – he had made the tackle fair and square and then twists his leg in the hope of inflicting damage

Smith had also opted not to fight a one-match ban imposed for illegal use of the forearm on Sam Tomkins - only ONE match for this cowardly action!

However the Kiwi forwards have now decided to accept the suspensions which can be wiped out in pre-season trial matches! Whats the point?

Time for "on report" to be binned and replaced with the ref looking at the video AT THE TIME and/or automatic yellow card if an incident is put on report.

It should be instant justice in the match!

the point of putting players on report is to allow the ref to cop out of making a decision

If a player is put on report, then the team should in my opinion should lose a substitution.

In fact, I also think it is time the number of substitutions were reduced from 12 to 8 (a average of 1 per each ten minutes of a game) in order to slow the game down as many of the worse offences occured when the game is at its fastest.

It has got to be remembered that some foul offences look far worse then what they are and there are not video replays available at every game.

peawapp you are correct ,the ref says he,s in charge to players if they step out of line. use the cameras to look again at what happened then decide the punishment.stop passing the buck

Agree with wigvet, were the ref should go to the video ref,I thought the ONLY thing they cant go to it for is a forward pass

But they don't have camera's at every game, especially outside the Super League!

True Ruddy but I still believe there should be some form of ‘instant justice’ in the game in which the player has been placed on report in the form of a yellow card

But what if the incident looks worse then what it was?

In the cases of Williams, Luke and Smith, they should have got a red card, but there have been incidents where it has been difficult to detemine if the offence warrented a red card or indeed a suspension.

Always has been a grey area for years!

An incident can be,as with debated try's be shown in normal speed as well,I didnt see the Tomkins "attack" in real time, only in slo-mo,but the Westwood incident......need I say anything more than were does the shoulder start

The vid ref is "modern technology" a lot of folk keep saying it should be in football, and then gods game,or should I say "GOD" himself didnt take advantage of it at the time,so why dont they use it

I agree with you about the yellow card, but also think that the team should lose a substitution.

Controversial Kiwis hooker Issac Luke on his return down under has admiited:

'When you come up against your family you want to outplay them. I didn't outplay him. I tried to break his leg. It was the wrong thing to do. Now I see that. At the time I didnt.'

What Isaac Luke did last week was nothing short of thuggery. The fact that he is admitting his intent to break Rangi Chase's leg makes it even worse

the answer then is to bring back Eric clay there would be no messing about crossing his arms to signify on report ,off he would go
