Sportswashing.....

Started by: chatty (9746)

Not only how much is being spent, but why?

The UAE’s enormous investment in Manchester City is one of football’s most brazen attempts to ‘sportswash’ a country’s deeply tarnished image through the glamour of the game,” Amnesty International’s Gulf researcher Devin Kenney said..

One of those sponsorship deals was struck with Arabtec, the largest construction company in the United Arab Emirates but a firm that has been repeatedly criticised by Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch for its poor treatment of migrant workers.

I pointed this out years ago when people on here were patting City on the back for paying a living wage to their employees in this country!!!

The documents allege the owners made cash payments to friendly corporations who then funneled that money directly to City in the form of sponsorships. They also set up a dummy corporation traceable back to the owners then bought player image rights from the club.

Been saying it for years that they sponsor themselves through the back door!

Replied: 15th Nov 2018 at 22:48

Yes Rio missed a drugs test and was rightly banned.
The punishment fitted the crime, let's see what Citys "punishment" is!

So not a sausage off the guy who usually gives a "War and Peace" length reply when any slight against City comes up on these boards, even he knows sometimes it's just impossible to defend the indefensible.
So as long as everyone agrees that for all of City's great footballing shows whatever happens over there is without merit and tainted we can all move on and pretend everything that's happening with the "grubbing cheats" is just fine!

Now it is old news and I can't be bothered.

Absorb yourself in this thread, you might be enlightened.

It's not too long ago we would have been happy with a semi final of a domestic cup, for too many years we seemed to get knocked out at quarter final stage.

We used to sing:

"Wemberlee, wemberlee, it's a sh**ty place in London that we never get to see".

That's one reason why us older Blues don't take the current success for granted, we are just waiting for the dream to be over then we can get back to plunging down the next dip in the roller coaster.

Young Blues however have the arrogance of yoonited fans brought up on success and there's nothing us older blokes can do about it.

Should this not be the case then I apologise, but a leopard doesn't change it's spots.

There has been calm on this site whilst he has been away but judging from LG's post he has kicked it all off again.

Fair play to yoonited, after they got rid of the toxic influence they have started to establish themselves as a top four/six club.

Nothing less than should be expected given that their personnel was probably the most underperforming in the league next to Chelsea and the phenomenal amount of money they have spent on both wages and transfers.

City, Liverpool and Chelsea all have better players/squads than yoonited but they are getting there on the crest of their current wave.

Ey up here he is Wigan Worlds answer to Mickey Dalton
No affiliation to any club or interest in the game, but like a village idiot tries to get involved.
Just reminds me of old Mickey, front of the parade, carnation in his lapel, arms swinging wildly, yet sod all to do with any of it.

No, I AM RIGHT, you've been caught bullpooing again
I didn't go to Wolves(no secret about that from me) and there'ed have been no point BECAUSE, allocation fully SOLD OUT, no 'OPEN SALE' tickets no 'SUBSIDISED TRAVEL'
Compare that to the Emptyhad last night, the chance of an an 'historic quadruple' and more holes in the crowd than a tramps vest

Love it chatty .
5 MINUTES from the final whistle you could have counted in that time how many seats were filled.
And take a look at the so called crowd..53.559 according to my paper.Never in a month of Sundays ,53.559 my arse .

Massaged figures or what .
In a few short years the berties will be trotting out v salford in a lower league .

You read it here first .
Taxi for pep .

In the recent FA cup match against Wolves there was an allocation of 4685 tickets for away fans .This was an increase of tickets due to it being the FA Cup.
14533 United fans applied for these tickets. These applications were from season ticket holders of more than 3 years.
To get a ticket for a United away game you have to be very, very lucky

I am well aware of that chocker.
The point is that the berties are always going on and on and on how big a club they are but yet they cant even fill the council house for a game that was vital in the run up .
I detest the bertie fans, I was in M C the day utd paraded after winning the treble ,something the berties hate us for.
The scum element were chanting munich stuff and imitating aircraft .
That in my eyes was unforgivable but yet some on this site make excuses for such behavior .I feel sorry for such scum
with twisted minds and low intellect .

Correct LG, their ilk are not qualified to pass judgment but are too dense/ignorant to see that.

Just like they refuse to:

Yes, I know it's arrogance but they wallow in their own delusion as they no longer have anything to be arrogant about.

City fans on the other hand know that we are not arrogant, just better.

Now where have I heard that before?
