non contact sport

Started by: peawapp (5107)

is our game rapidly turning in to a non contact sport, last nights match a case in point, every time anyone was touched ever so slightly with the hand anywhere near the head or shoulders, they would sink to the floor and just lie there, waiting for the Physio and the club Doctor to hurtle on to the field and check for a broken neck ,then eventually the victim would stagger to his feet ,to be led gently to the dressing room for a concussion check ,it happens now three or four times every game ,they're going bloody soft, someone slumps to the floor and lies down for ages .I remember watching a Leigh miners match a few years ago when players were getting hurt more than they normally did and waited for the magic sponge man to run on with his bucket of water and a sponge ,one of the dowling twins had been attended to twice in a matter of minutes, and the sponge man had just got back to the touchline out of breath and went down on his knees, when a shout went up and the dowling twin was down again, so the sponge man ran back on ,knelt down next to the player and said get up you bald headed lazy get there's nowt wrong with thi, at which mester dowling leapt to his feet and the sponge man threw his bucket and sponge away and started to run chased by the Dowling twin all the way down to the Canal, now that's whaat should happen

Can't do that now Peawapp, not unless you have some life belts near the canal.

I disagree. Head injuries should be checked carefully. If a player walks off for a concussion check then he can return if passed. If not he shouldn't be on that field. It's a tough sport and you have to look after the players. i wouldn't fancy being clobbered around the head by one of the big lads.

several teams take advantage of it though and use it to their advantage to waste time and slow the match down, two in particular are the Catalans Dragons, and wakefield trinity ,it want's a strong referee to spot the cheaters,
