Andy Burnham new Chairman of RFL
Started by: Platty (109) Report abuse
He said: "Greater Manchester is one of the sport’s greatest heartlands. We have six famous clubs and a grassroots and club structure that is strong. I see it as an important part of my role as mayor of Greater Manchester to develop the game here and further afield.”

I presume he means Toronto, Australia, America...

Posted by: broady (13244)   Report abuse
A scouser having a say in RL. What next?? Maybe he needs to get connected to a SL club now rather than a team from the outback!!!

Posted by: Platty (109) Report abuse
Ha ha. He's honorary vice chairman of Leigh Centurians so he's worldly wise.

Whoever thought a scouser would get to be Mayor of GM, and a jolly good job he's doing of that, too.

Posted by: chatty (5938)  Report abuse
I wonder how long it took him to come up with "six famous clubs"?

Posted by: tuddy (927) Report abuse
Well, one of Britain's best forwards is a Scouser.

Posted by: peawapp (4921)  Report abuse
Mr Burnham is an ideal choice for the job ,manys the time I've seen him watching Leigh, He was actually at Whitehaven back in the early eighgties when Leigh won the Championship so He knows the sport inside out and is perfect for the job
P.S. He is also doing a magnificent job as Mayor of Manchester ,Peawapp suspects a little jealousy here from the crust munching fraternity
P.P.S. it's actually CenturiOns not CenturiAns just saying

Posted by: peter g (1885)  Report abuse
I bet Burnham hasn't even picked up a rugby ball in anger

Posted by: tuddy (927) Report abuse
I was at Hilton Park in 1970 when Wigan silenced Murphy and the the lobby sippers by knocking them out of the cup. Dose that mean that I know the game inside out? I think that Burnham will be good at the job, but I doubt that he knows the game inside out.

Posted by: broady (13244)   Report abuse
I wonder if he would be such a good candidate if he drank in the Tory club???

Posted by: Platty (109) Report abuse
Burnham pulled out of the labour leadership contest because he knew he wouldn't get it and went for GM Mayor cos he knew he would, and at a similar salary and perks.
How's he going to split his time housing the homeless and promoting Rugby League in this country, "and further afield"?

P.S. Peawapp, sorry didn't proof read. I cut and pasted that sentence from MEN.

P.P.S. Tuddy: We call them lobby gobblers. Who is the best forward Scouser?

Posted by: tuddy (927) Report abuse
Lobby sippers are too stingy to use meat.

James Graham originates from Maghull.

Posted by: broady (13244)   Report abuse
tuddy,
Just by coincidence I was reading a programme from Wigan and St. Helens Under 11's final in ???? on the day of the recent World Cup final and the 9 and 10 that day for Saints were Roby and Graham.

Posted by: tonker (19295)   Report abuse
Just to let you know. Andy Burnham is NOT a scouser.

Posted by: broady (13244)   Report abuse
"Born in the Old Roan area of Aintree, Merseyside, on the border of Liverpool" So what is he a cockney??

Posted by: peawapp (4921)  Report abuse
Mr Burnham has been a regular watcher from the terraces at hilton park ,and more recently in a sponsored box at the L.S.V. for a good number of years so he does know all about the game

Posted by: tuddy (927) Report abuse
I've been watching the game since I was eight years old, I've played at amateur level, and I hold a coaching certificate, but I certainly don't all about the game by any means. so I doubt that Mr Burnham knows all about the game, or that he would claim to.

Posted by: broady (13244)   Report abuse
Peawapp, If he drank if the Tory club wou.ld you be beating the drum for him?? Check out mid Staffs Hospital scandal. He is a brown noser.

Posted by: tuddy (927) Report abuse
broady Roby and Graham, now they may know a thing or two about the game, but not all about it.

Posted by: broady (13244)   Report abuse
None of us do Tuddy but I would bow to their superior knowledge.

Posted by: tuddy (927) Report abuse
I think Mr Burnham would too.

Posted by: peawapp (4921)  Report abuse
Peawapp has formed the opinion that Mr Burnham appears not to be the preferred choice of the Humble Pie eaters, maybe they would prefer someone like Maurice Lindsay the Man who during his tenure at wigan very nearly got our great sport done away with for good thankfully His name is seldom heard these days

Posted by: tuddy (927) Report abuse
Lindsay has been watching rugby league since the 1950s, so by your own reasoning he must know the game inside out.

Posted by: tonker (19295)   Report abuse
I'd say Andy Burnham (who isn't a Scouser, by the way) knows more about the game of rugby than Dave Whelan (who really is from Bradford, Yorkshire, by the way) did, when he bought Wigan RLFC, and the Wiganers love 'Him'!

Posted by: tuddy (927) Report abuse
He may well do, but I doubt that he knows the game inside out.

Posted by: GOLDEN BEAR (3031)  Report abuse
The fact's speak for themselves, first he tried politics then FAILED, then he has thrown his hat at the manchester mayor, jury out yet, not he is mucking around rugby league ,why can't he just try to do one job ,i don't hold out any hope that he will succeed in that . Just a tosser from Leigh.

Posted by: tonker (19295)   Report abuse
He might be a tosser, but he's not from Leigh!

Posted by: peawapp (4921)  Report abuse
Tonker is once again correct as usual well said tonks Golden Bear speaks nonsense, Mr burnham in Government was firstly Culture Secretary ,then an excellent Health secretary ,far better than Hunt ,waste of time trying to talk in a sensible way to Golden Bear I would guess

Posted by: broady (13244)   Report abuse
Tonker, why is he not a scouser?? MP for Leigh and Culture Secretary!!! Figure that one out.

Posted by: GOLDEN BEAR (3031)  Report abuse
Excuse me peewop, I thought site was for people to express their views and opinions without having such derogatory remarks aimed at them, there has been comments made by yourself to which i do not agree but i do not insult your intelligence. Nor will i ever do so!
As i remarked those were my views on burnham , you speak about him being health sec, please inform me what he did for the NHS? As for culture sec,, he did not exactly shatter the world ,again MY VIEW, all i can say that if you do not care for my opinions/views ok move on ,i dont know you but i will not use that last line you wrote about me which in MY OPINION WAS A PERSONNAL ATTACK ON ME !
By the a HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL.

Golden Bear
your comment that Mr Burnham is just a Tosser from Leigh shows your ignorance, and your reply to me when you rearranged the letters of my username shows your Childishness not much point in further comment other than to say it's Christmas I'm off for a pint compliments of the season to you

Posted by: broady (13244)   Report abuse
Enjoy your pint peawapp and have one for me.

Why thank you very much PEAWAPP, FOR your kind thought's, just one item in my defence of the " TOSSER" who proportedly represents the great borough of LEIGH,MY reason's are acurate in my remark's of this fellow on the grounds of after well over several meeting's with him, concerning my late father's claim for the industrial miner's disease of pneumoconiosis, this guy did not want to know and the thing that annoye's me is that he and his staff at the LEIGH office LOST every shred of all our documentation ,ie birth/marriage/death/certificate#s along autopy report's countless document's from doctor's /hospital whoa i'll stop there for it is still raw after all this time . Thus my explanation of my views, feeling'd and emotion's about him, to this day mr peawapp ,we the family have NEVER recieved an apology , and so i reciprocate my feeling's to your goodself enjoy your pint or two and compliments of the season to you too!

Posted by: tonker (19295)   Report abuse
Broady, Andy Burnham is as much a Scouser as you are a Leyther or a Manc., ie: not at all.

GB., Leigh is not a borough. Furthermore, Andy Burnham had nothing to do with any borough.

Posted by: broady (13244)   Report abuse
So Aintree isn't in Liverpool!! Is that what you are saying?? Google things to visit in Liverpool and it says visit Aintree Racecourse. Google the crossword clue "Racecourse in Liverpool" and the answer is Aintree. They are all wrong and you correct??

Posted by: tonker (19295)   Report abuse
Indeed. 'I' am ALWAYS correct.

Aintree is not in Liverpool. Aintree racecourse is not in Liverpool. Andy Burnham doesn't come from Liverpool.

In fact, he's never even lived in Merseyside, never mind Liverpool!

Does that make him a 'plastic'?

Posted by: peawapp (4921)  Report abuse
Golden Bear
thank you for that reply ,I obviously was unaware of the situation and any detrimental comments I made I apologise for,I myself had a claim for compensation for my late Fathers illness and Death caused by the Coal mines ,He wasn't involved in my claim thankfully as it turns out ,so if you will accept my apology I would appreciate it

Posted by: grimshaw (1019)  Report abuse

When Andy Burnham was Leigh M.P. he did quite a lot for his constituents.I always found him to be helpful !

Posted by: GOLDEN BEAR (3031)  Report abuse
PEAWAPP: Why i thank you most kindly for your letter and i too probably went a bit to far of which i apologise, suffice to say,
