Totally agree FP , for anyone like ourselves who supported the club through it non league days and early years in the Football League , the name tics is totally alien and horrible ! Seemed to start about four years ago ?

I believe it originated from when David Sharpe took over as Chairman. I have never liked the term either, it will always me Latics to me

Springfield was fanastic. Great old stadium.

Why on earth didn't they stay put?

Posted by: fireplace6899 (10522)  Report abuse
Well said bluesfan.

Tics is for the people who have a limited knowledge of the Latics history.

Only the other day I was talking to a "fan" who had never heard of Harry Lyon.

Billy lomax,Harry Parkinson,Dave Mycock,Kenny Banks,Tommy Hindle, they would wonder what the hell tics was, in them days I think they were little liquorice toffee

Jarvo , with today's modern technology , the pitch at Springfield Park would have been superb throughout the season , unlike the DW , that does not drain properly in the winter .

History now, WR, but the memories linger.

I always remember the Witton Albion fans in the open end with their flags and banners.

They always turned up.

I Loved Springfield Park, so happy that I was just old enough to have been able to watch Latics play there. I have happy memories of times spent watches games with my Family. It was a very sad day when we left.

Wish we had stayed there too. DW is too big a stadium for our town teams

my dad watched the latics from the twenties to the seventies, while he adored the old ground springfield park,he was amazed at the new ground, which in my opinion should have been named the new springfield park, only whelan's ego stopped a proper name, the dw ?,as boring a name as could be conceived,an atmospheric catastrophe.

Correct bluesfan...far too big for our little town
