In the game I saw last night [Melbourne/Canberra], the time spent by the video ref in coming to a decision was minimal. Our clowns take ages and then often make the wrong call. There should be a time limit. Makes you wonder how refs back in the day managed, eh?

gideonfel,
I think they missed a lot of things but didn't have scrutiny by twenty cameras from different angles. I admired Eric Clay and the way he refereed but no one can tell me that if Ken Large broke away at speed and passed on to Vollonhoven after thirty yards that Eric Clay would have been up with play to check a forward pass. I'm sure they refereed wearing a blazer!!! What they should stop is the referee giving an opinion prior to passing it to the video ref. If he can't decide then keep out of it. I am 100% sure that if the referee had signalled his opinion was a try then Clubb's effort would have been given.

Agreed, Broady. I don't think they even had fitness tests in those days! But the point I'm making is about the way our video ref system seems to be failing us. I don't know if it's just me, but I feel they're taking longer and longer over coming to a decision. The match I watched from Oz gave quick decisions that barely interrupted the play. Watching the same clip over and over again won't change what happens, will it? I think they're getting to enjoy the power they have.
