what,s abu's guys ? .

Posted by: chatty (5253)  Report abuse
"Anyone but United".

Just jealous and bitter people whups who have come to hate United, when we win it kills them, many don't even follow any particular other team they just want United to lose!
A few prime examples on here, but all being well we wont be hearing much off them this season!

They seek them here they seek them there, those United fans seek them everywhere. Are they Scousers or are they Blues those damned elusive ABU's!

When all the jealous and bitter people realised United were on their way to becoming the most successful English club, so you can tell everyone the answer then.

Have a read below, hopefully your ADD doesn't kick in.

Courtesy of h2g2:

Have you ever wondered why crowds at a Tottenham v Leicester football game insist on singing 'Stand up if you hate Man U...'?

A Brief Introduction

Here's how it works. In England there is the Premiership. At present, supporters of the different teams in the Premiership can be split into two groups: Manchester United fans and the rest. The rest are often labelled 'ABUs' or Anything But United. This is the reason that you will often hear the song 'Stand Up If You Hate Man U ...' at most Premiership grounds, whoever the opposition. It seems to be that anyone who supports any team other than Manchester United in the Premiership actually despises them and just wants them to lose. Some supporters have gone as far as to say that instead of supporting a certain team, they will go the other way and support every team whenever they play against the team which is the object of their antipathy. These are true ABUs.

This kind of phenomenon seems to occur elsewhere as well, when there are local rivalries such as the one that exists between the Merseyside football teams Liverpool and Everton, or between teams like Newcastle and Sunderland. But nowhere else is it the case that the whole country hates them, apart from their own fans. Probably the closest to Manchester United, in terms of an entire nation's dislike of one particular team, is Arsenal. It used to be that crowds would unanimously sing the words 'boring, boring Arsenal' whenever they played the North London side. But these days, this has died down in favour of a continued, demonstrative anti-Manchester United fervour.

Already said that bitterness and jealousy, should have saved yourself three attempts at copy and pasting!

Posted by: xxstuartxx (5797) Report abuse
Two, like I've previously said "You deserve more".

Grimey's still trying to come to terms and understand it.

Posted by: xxstuartxx (5797) Report abuse
I know I'm preaching to the great unwashed, but there's more to it than that.

Yet more from h2g2:

It's not just the fact that they're so successful which causes people to hate them. It also comes from the Triumphalism which (seems to) emanate from the club and especially the fans. From having not won the league for 20-30 years (don't remember exactly how long) to winning everything in sight the fans have changed from the worst losers (we're still the greatest team in the world even though we don't show it by winning the league) to the worst winners (we're the bash nah nah na na nah!).
The thing is, Liverpool dominated the game in the 80s more than utd do now but they never seemed to be so 'in your face' about it. They just went out every week and won. I also think that the medias obsession with Man U has a lot to do with the dislike.
Hey, I'm Irish and our national tv station seems to think that the only football worth showing is Man Utd vs anyone else and the commentators are unbelievably biased towards them (and they aren't even OUR team).
I have to finish off by saying that I too hate Utd ('scum' as I affectionately call them) and long for the day when they fall from power

Their words, not mine.

The very first sentence hits the nail on the head;

It's not just the fact that they're so successful which causes people to hate them...

So for the third time, just bitterness and jealousy.
Well at least you learned to copy and paste in one go.

For the 20th time. "it's more than that".

Posted by: chatty (5253)  Report abuse

Posted by: chatty (5253)  Report abuse
