Helder Costa - The New Peter Knowles...

Started by: jarvo (30250)

Helder Costa

Peter Knowles

Costa has an uncanny resemblance to the great Peter Knowles, in his play, the way he passes, and his blistering pace.

One to watch out for.

Wolves deserved what they got.

They played good football against the best team in Europe.

hey whats an offside or handball goal got to do with yet another poor ref and his linesmen.

The ref was consistent throughout the game.

If they play with as much fight, throughout the season, they shouldn't have a problem staying up.

Peter is happy and has been for nearly fifty years.

He still lives in Wolverhampton and the folk still worship him.

He made his choice. It was the right one for him.

Anything that shakes up these called big boys is fine by me. I'd love to see Huddersfield win it.

Unless I am missing something the use of the word great talking about Peter Knowles is something of an overstatement. Played in aa Wolves team that, as now, was up and down between the first and second division. Never won a solitary England cap, never won a major trophy or anything of note. Not even the most recognized footballer in the family. On the plus side he was of RL stock as his father played for Wakefield Trinity. I suppose he may have become GREAT at knocking on doors and disturbing people later in life.

He was a handy player broady.
Must say that ,but great is taking it a bit far .

You apply the word great to the likes of Bestie ,Charlton.

Top Top players at an high level.

Grimmy: I couldn't obtain a ticket for OT with Away STH's and 'Gold' STH's having priority. However, I did listen to the game on Five Live.

On a brighter note, I will be attending the City away game in January with my son as a guest with some of his work colleagues, and similarly at Everton in February.

Peter Knowles was a fine player who would have gone on to gain full England caps having played at schoolboy , youth and under 23 level.

He is still active in Wolverhampton. And he is much loved by one and all.

Good to hear that Knowles is well and is loved and respected in Wolverhampton.

I respect your view on him as a player but never in a month of Sundays was he great .

B t w.if your looking for a good evening out after you have watched wolves at home on a saturday i can recommend the all weather racing at Dunstall park which is just a stones throw from Molineux.

Not a racing man and never go near it. The trains home are hardly flexible, last one back sometimes just after nine.

Driving down is a pain, so I still prefer the train. I like the Virgin coffee.

I still think that Peter was the best player (along with Georgie and maybe Banksy) and I'll never change my opinion. He could turn a game with a deft touch or a 30 yard screamer. Saw him do it many a time. As kids we adored him.

I always had plenty time for Steve Bull and John Richards. They scored goals for fun and they'd be worth a fortune these days.

John Richards was as strong as an ox, and had pace too.

And to think that lesser players like Lineker got more England caps.

A travesty.

With respect jarvo you miss the point .

Bestie and Bobby did it at a much higher level than P Knowles ever did .For instance Bestie at the
Bernabeu v Real Madrid AND at wembley in the euro final AND Bobby in a world cup final.

I had better line up for a good kicking also as I think George Best is the finest footballer I have ever seen by a country mile. The Bobby mentioned must be Charlton. We are now in the unique position of having someone able to tell us that someone who RETIRED would have gained international honours IF he had carried on playing. Nostradamus eat your heart out.

Alf Ramsey had Knowles and Peter Osgood in his little black notebook for Mexico.

Everyone who followed football at that time knew of Peter's ability. Bill Shankly and Bill Nick made several attempts to sign him, but he stayed loyal to Wolves until his spiritual call.

He is, and always will be, my football hero.
