Very hard to call this one...completely different attitude to the white ball game...just hope England know how to “dig in”

I agree roylew , hard to call . IF our fast bowlers live up to their reputations , then we should win. IF

As Australia are notorious cheats let us hope that both onfield and TV umpires keep a careful eye on proceedings.
Aussie94 - a Brit shouting for Australia - hang your head in shame. They still have hanging for treason Lord Haw Haw.

Douglas Jardine the biggest thug ever to play cricket. hated Don Bradman , so he set out to maim him. Worst captain ever. Toff from upper class Englandr

who would have believed aussies moaning about douglas jardine.
he choose a away to beat his opponents, the aussies where not good enough to adapt to his tactics.
whinging poms indeed.
winners do not have to be popular.

Harold Larwood retired from cricket in 1939 and went to work as a market gardener. In 1946 he bought a toffee shop in Blackpool were he stayed till 1950, when he emigrated to Australia.

A fine display of batting and some brilliant support from the tail end Charlies.
Still a cheat............

His past will haunt him , but that was brilliant best Aussie batsman I have seen. met him he is a very humbke guy. Not a bragster

If we can bat past 450 today we shouldn’t lose the game and the Aussies will be on the back foot....I know Smith had a great innings but that Siddle is a thorn in Englands side

What a joke these umpires are . giving players out when they are not Not , Giving them out when they are. A raft of bad decisions for both sides .

The quality of umpiring in the first test has been very close to shocking. Joel Wilson only recently elected to the elite panel is not good enough to officiate in matches of this status in my opinion,
The second of the two reviews this morning against Joe Root indicated that the umpire was incompetent as the contact off Roots bat was square on to his pad and visible without the replay, even the mrs saw it!!!

It’s not only the umpires who are awful this morning

Fifth day pitch and classy bowling from Lyon makes it very difficult to survive for England.
Lyon is putting a lot more effort into his bowling than Ali did on a helpful pitch yesterday. That and Smith is the difference.

May I propose Sir Benjamin in the New Years honours.
Cannot wait for Old Trafford although weather forecast is a bit of a drizzle on first day

Great knock by the basher Ben Stokes. Terrible umpires , poor Aussie fielding gave England a chance. And they took it. These two turkeys standing as Umpires are the worst I have seen in 60 years of watching Cricket

A terrible referral near the end too, you threw it away Aussie still it sets up a great finish to the series

Don’t forget Leach....he was outstanding....it’s so difficult to prop up one end....😂😂I remember scoring 4 not out in a partnership of 146....although it wasn’t a last wicket partnership

I agree Aussie fielding was poor . Steve Smith should be back and a few changes needed . I cant understand why Mitchell Starc is not in the side. If he is fit he should be there bowling at speed around the heads of Englands batsmen

No he was a toff with an attitude who used up Harold Larwood. we need a bowler who can liven up the contest. Should be a great match

tony j I agree with you . Our bowling was good , but other than Steve Smith our batting very ordinary. And that was probably true for both sides . Too much white ball cricket and the tip and run rubbish

What a stuff up , why did Paine not bat and then our fielding was terrible . Well done England and joffra what a star he is turning out to be . Chief Cheat Warner should get the big A. Feel for our great bowlers , Unless Smith fire we are rubbish .
