starts thursday . Can't wait , should be a great series. Go you ball scratching Aussies

Posted by: roylew (3103) Report abuse
Very hard to call this one...completely different attitude to the white ball game...just hope England know how to “dig in”

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
I agree roylew , hard to call . IF our fast bowlers live up to their reputations , then we should win. IF

Posted by: tony j (741)  Report abuse
go, go, england, thrash the ball scratchers !!

Posted by: builderboy (2149) Report abuse
As Australia are notorious cheats let us hope that both onfield and TV umpires keep a careful eye on proceedings.

Aussie94 - a Brit shouting for Australia - hang your head in shame. They still have hanging for treason Lord Haw Haw.

builderboy,well said.

Posted by: fossil (6673) Report abuse
I think when I was playing, most ball scratchers fielded in the slips Tony j 😀😀

Douglas Jardine the biggest thug ever to play cricket. hated Don Bradman , so he set out to maim him. Worst captain ever. Toff from upper class Englandr

Posted by: baker boy (15005) Report abuse
who would have believed aussies moaning about douglas jardine.
he choose a away to beat his opponents, the aussies where not good enough to adapt to his tactics.
whinging poms indeed.
winners do not have to be popular.

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
Harold Larwood who could not return to England after jardine and who lived out his life in Aussie . Told people Jardine was a bastard an english Toff I hate the C--t

Posted by: fordie (705) Report abuse
Harold Larwood retired from cricket in 1939 and went to work as a market gardener. In 1946 he bought a toffee shop in Blackpool were he stayed till 1950, when he emigrated to Australia.

Sorry, but I see nothing but an Aussie whitewash...

Posted by: broady (15098)   Report abuse
Is there any sport this gent isn't an expert on?

Posted by: roylew (3103) Report abuse
Shut up jarvo...you know nothing bout cricket

Posted by: tony j (741)  Report abuse
what a superb knock by smith, credit where it's due.

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
tony j i agree with you one of the best Innings i have seen in Ashes Tests. Well done Steve.

Posted by: builderboy (2149) Report abuse
A fine display of batting and some brilliant support from the tail end Charlies.
Still a cheat............

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
His past will haunt him , but that was brilliant best Aussie batsman I have seen. met him he is a very humbke guy. Not a bragster

Posted by: grimshaw (2016)  Report abuse
A cheat is a cheat .Is a cheat .

End of .

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
grimsaw people in glass houses

Posted by: roylew (3103) Report abuse
If we can bat past 450 today we shouldn’t lose the game and the Aussies will be on the back foot....I know Smith had a great innings but that Siddle is a thorn in Englands side

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
What a joke these umpires are . giving players out when they are not Not , Giving them out when they are. A raft of bad decisions for both sides .

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
I hope the weather stays good for the last day. Should be a great day.

Posted by: builderboy (2149) Report abuse
Hear hear to that Aussie.

Posted by: fossil (6673) Report abuse
The quality of umpiring in the first test has been very close to shocking. Joel Wilson only recently elected to the elite panel is not good enough to officiate in matches of this status in my opinion,
The second of the two reviews this morning against Joe Root indicated that the umpire was incompetent as the contact off Roots bat was square on to his pad and visible without the replay, even the mrs saw it!!!

Posted by: builderboy (2149) Report abuse
Dead right fossil.

Posted by: roylew (3103) Report abuse
It’s not only the umpires who are awful this morning

Posted by: fossil (6673) Report abuse
Fifth day pitch and classy bowling from Lyon makes it very difficult to survive for England.
Lyon is putting a lot more effort into his bowling than Ali did on a helpful pitch yesterday. That and Smith is the difference.

Posted by: i-spy (14443)  Report abuse
Nathan Lyon bowled superbly .

Posted by: Handsomeminer (1566) Report abuse
Your boys ain't doing bad Aussie

Posted by: whups (4115)   Report abuse
that england batting today was a disgrace .

Posted by: broady (15098)   Report abuse
See Jarvo’s comment of 31st July. The sporting know all.

Posted by: laughing gravy (5071) Report abuse
broady i seem to remember somebody crowing about trafford being unbeaten pre season.

Posted by: Whalley (9) Report abuse
May I propose Sir Benjamin in the New Years honours.
Cannot wait for Old Trafford although weather forecast is a bit of a drizzle on first day

Posted by: broady (15098)   Report abuse
Were they unbeaten?? When did stating a fact amount to crowing? I don't intend to exchange comments on all that cra* you post with you. There are plenty more on here who wipe the floor with you as it is. Just for the record why not give us YOUR forecast of the top four in the PL this season.

Posted by: whups (4115)   Report abuse
i never thought i,d see another botham innings again in my lifetime but that from ben stokes was the best iv,e seen . considering he was down to the last man & get another 70+ runs to win it . just remarkable & he,s pure box office.

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
Great knock by the basher Ben Stokes. Terrible umpires , poor Aussie fielding gave England a chance. And they took it. These two turkeys standing as Umpires are the worst I have seen in 60 years of watching Cricket

Posted by: Handsomeminer (1566) Report abuse
A terrible referral near the end too, you threw it away Aussie still it sets up a great finish to the series

Posted by: roylew (3103) Report abuse
Don’t forget Leach....he was outstanding....it’s so difficult to prop up one end....😂😂I remember scoring 4 not out in a partnership of 146....although it wasn’t a last wicket partnership

Posted by: whups (4115)   Report abuse
quite right roylew & lets not forget the misfield at the end .

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
I agree Aussie fielding was poor . Steve Smith should be back and a few changes needed . I cant understand why Mitchell Starc is not in the side. If he is fit he should be there bowling at speed around the heads of Englands batsmen

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
Well we may have Mitchell Starc in the side at last. About time we gave back Joffra his serving bouncers . Go Mitch take their heads off.

Posted by: baker boy (15005) Report abuse
shades of dougie jardine

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
No he was a toff with an attitude who used up Harold Larwood. we need a bowler who can liven up the contest. Should be a great match

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
balls starting to get hot , starting time not far away . who will have the balls at the end

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
Rerrible start

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
Great Manchester weather

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
Smithy bats on

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
Another century from the greatest Aussie batsman since Sir Donald Bradman. Has to be the best in the world, or is he

Posted by: tony j (741)  Report abuse
yes he is aussie, without a doubt, he makes it look so easy. he is one helluva player

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
Stand above the rest i just wish he was not such a fidge. Drives you mad his antics

Posted by: basil brush (12726) Report abuse
I feel that it's slipping away from us.

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
can basher Ben do it again

Posted by: tony j (741)  Report abuse
no

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
spot on tony j a great win

Posted by: tony j (741)  Report abuse
well done aussie, best team won, but having said that, they were two ordinary teams in my opinion, the difference being the superb smith, what a player.

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
tony j I agree with you . Our bowling was good , but other than Steve Smith our batting very ordinary. And that was probably true for both sides . Too much white ball cricket and the tip and run rubbish

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
What a stuff up , why did Paine not bat and then our fielding was terrible . Well done England and joffra what a star he is turning out to be . Chief Cheat Warner should get the big A. Feel for our great bowlers , Unless Smith fire we are rubbish .

Posted by: aussie94 (2300) Report abuse
Englamd should win this one

Posted by: tony j (741)  Report abuse
should do aussie, but it means nowt, job done, aussies just want to get back whom after a long tour.
