there as been many mothers names put on , but the ones i need to confirm arent coming up yet .for eg i have entered name ,mothers maiden name ,2 have come up identical ,but 2 differant ref numbers .i tried the other system date , wigan and name initial . still 2 identical but differant ref numbers ,can any one enlighten this thick head of mine

Had a quick look for your info, and there is no way of telling which is the right one from the Lancs BMD site.
But the Lancs Online Parish Clerk site has some useful info for you, which might mean you don't need to get the actual birth cert? Link is here

If you do still want the cert. call in at Wigan Register Office (part of the old Wigan Tech Building in Library St.) and they will sort it for you on the spot, preferably not Monday or Friday when they are busiest.

To order online from Southport, the Lancs BMD ref numbers will not be any good, but you can just fill in the name and date.

Also, the family are hidden on the 1881 census under the name MOP instead of Moss. There are loads of ridiculous errors in census transcripts!
