The Turnkey restaurant
Started by: i-spy (12998)  Report abuse
Anybody remember the set lunch menu - I remember the poached halibut and the flakey pastry steak pie.
But what was the other choice

I think Roger Doxey owned it then and it was later run by Barbara Chew.

I remember it being on King Street, I-Spy, but I don't think I ever went.

I suspect you're not old enough to have sampled the delights of the old Turnkey before it became a drinking night spot

I remember going there in about 1971 and it was called 'The Turnkey Cellars' and it was themed to look like a dungeon, with a stone floor, with the diners being in little alcoves

I did a job of renewing a WC pan in the Turnkey in the late 60's early 70's (can't be sure) and had to pick up the pan from Makinsons ( which was next to the Wigan Casino) and had to carry it from there to the Turnkey on mi yed....not a happy bunny.
