did any of you go to gidlow sec' mod' school, and were any of you brave enough to climb the ropes in the gym - then turn upside-down and put your footprints on the 'pretty high in the sky ceiling' - i used to watch in amazement at some lads, up in a flash, turn upside-down hold on with just one hand and put two prints on the ceiling, strewth i could just about manage half way and then, blaming my 'grip' would come down somewhat embarrassed, then watch others up again, can't remember what teachers j. sharrock or t. higham thought of it at the time, blimey look at the time, must go i'm on 'milk duty'

I went to Gidlow 1970 to 1972 then I had to leave as the education authority changed it to a middle school. I then moved to Whitley and left in 1975. PS I remember the gym at Gidlow,it doubled up as the dinner hall, badminton court assembly hall etc!! The headmaster at the time was Horace (corky) Price.

I went to gidlow in the mid eighties before going to the deanery. The gym doubled up as pretty much everything.

i went to gidlow 1967 to 1970 when it was all girls and wed morn when we had joint assembly was the only time you got to see the lads. The head was mrs Lowe and deputy Miss Dickson how i hated the latter one and she hated me!!!!!

hi 1934granada, hell's bells, (giving a bit much away here) but i left in 19 er um er 55 (strewth that was painful) and h price was the head' - i think even then, he was about 110yrs old, we had "music" lessons in the room below h. price's room, teacher by the name of curry, big chap, always had a thick piece of 'dowelling' in his hand ready to 'tickle' your knuckles if caught 'neddying about',- you could tell when price was about as we would start singing in tune (well almost)

Posted by: andee (78)  Report abuse
hi mamacass - you never know your dad and me may have sat together - i liked to sit at back, these desks were up to wall and when curry wasn't (or we thought wasn't) watching we could push everybody in front of us almost up to the board, my knuckles are still sore

1965 when I left Gidlow. I remember Mrs Lowe and Miss Dickson, who was my form teacher. Most people disliked her very much, but she was a bloody good teacher. It was very strict when I went there.

Posted by: busy bee (624) Report abuse
i remember miss Dixon and mrs Lowe and i disliked miss Dixon but i have to say its surprising how you remember things she taught you.so she must have done some good.
does anyone remember when people said the lab was haunted how we were all scared to go up there on our own.

Posted by: maddy (1697)   Report abuse
i remember that busy bee they used to say if you stood at the bottom of the stone steps and looked at the top you could see the ghost of one of the teachers daughters i cant for the life of me think of her name, i remember she was a maths teacheri think she had red hair,it`s weird but i still have dreams of that school and in it im lways trying to find the correct class, my fav teacher was mrs green.Do you remember the old sun dial, wonder who`s garden thats in now.

Posted by: mollie m (6223)  Report abuse
I liked Mrs Green, and Mrs Gaskell as well. Gosh! That old sun-dial. I'd forgotten about that till it was mentioned. I used to love that lab upstairs - it was me favourite room.

Posted by: busy bee (624) Report abuse
hi maddy the teacher was mrs.gill think her daughters name was heather i believe she died of leukemia. she was always spitting at you when she spoke to you. i liked mrs green and mrs gaskell too.i liked Wednesday morning assembly when we could look at the lads we fancied.talking about the sun dial do you remember we would sit on it in the summer the lads sat on one side and the girls on the other because we weren't suppose to mix with each other. what would the young ones say if they did that today?

Posted by: 1934granada (inactive) Report abuse
I remember that sundial. Rumour has it that the girls had an option of a sundial or a swimming pool and they opted for the sundial. Is there any truth in that rumour?

I went to Gidlow about 1976. My dad was there around mid 40's he remembers that there should have been a pool. There was a classroom in the middle when I was there. Apart from meeting boys it was the worst time of my life
