Lankycats

Started by: billyshym (745)

LankyKats is based on the successful model of the former 60s Mersey Beat bands & Muso's organisations MerseyCats MerseyRats CheshireCats etc. www.merseycats.com

They all meet weekly, are thriving and some have been going for 20 years. I think the time is right for all the 60s/70s etc LANKY BEAT bands and muso's to get themselves sorted too.

It needs a bunch of passionate rock 'n rollers with one spare night a week to get the ball rolling and keep the once wonderful Lanky Beat scene alive; I'm sure from the incredible response I've had to www.lankybeat.com I'm not far off the mark that it would work.

I'm giving you my idea and support and I would be willing to help you get kick-started by initially calling an informal meeting. However, for personal reasons I cannot get involved in the running of such a set-up as yet but you would have my 100% support in every other way.

There's something to be said by forming Lankykats... Meeting like minded musicians and friends and playing on a regular weekly basis in the same venue and raising money for worthy causes at the same time... Oggy would have luvved it!

Yours musically

WHAT'S HAPPENING?

To be a Lankykat is to love rock 'n roll in all its shapes and sizes. We're aiming to play as often as once week in an ambient setting which is intimately comfortable, warm and welcoming to suit both the musicians and audience alike. In addition, the venue must have good transport links close to the M6.. so we chose the M6 junction 27 - Standish - so you'll find the Standish Unity Club decidedly friendly and ideal for the Lankykats musical cause.

The stage has a backline of bass and lead amplifiers, a basic drum kit and up to four microphones, so there'll be no need to bring your own gear - just your own guitar or a snare drum and a pair of sticks will do. Sound will be controlled for you - so you can relax and get on with the business of playing some good rock 'n roll for your appreciative audience.

Both individual players and full bands are more than welcome to play. On arrival an entrance fee of £1 will be due by all - including the musicians - then just ask and say you want to play, if not, just find a seat and get yourself a drink at the bar - then just settle in for some lively action.

If you're playing, you'll then be given some advisory guidance and then an agreed time slot. You must be on time for your set and smart off the mark too, by plugging-in within the bands change-over time of ten minutes - and away you go. You'll have around thirty minutes maximum playing time so at the end of your set you'll be called and given one more song to play.

You could incidently, find yourself playing twice or more on the same night - that's if you want to! We at lankykats encourage 'scratch' bands of 'unattached' muso's and jamming is highly desirable too - particularly at the end of the night.

We are now looking forward to playing and having many fab night's out which will be coming up on most Thursday evenings commencing soon. Please look-out carefully for the Lankykats meetings dates - and come along and be well prepared for some long-lasting rock 'n roll fun at Lankykats.. See you there..

A BIG LANKYKATS THANK YOU..

www.lankykats.com

It was just a trial night last Thursday but you wouldn't have guessed it! It was how I ever imagined LANKYKATS to be.. Great atmosphere... superb bands, fantastic musicians and unprecidented cameraderie.

Everthing went super smooth with the setting-up. The sound mixing from Mitch was priceless and gave the night-out a truly professional touch. Our small non-playing audience were with us all the way and can't wait to do it all over again om Thursday 3 November at the official LANKYKATS LAUNCH.

We aim to bring everthing together every two weeks after that - in the 1st and 3rd Thursdays every month until further notice.

In the new year we are also getting together some good ideas about putting on 'LANKYKATS SPECIALS' nights.. no details as yet; just watch this space for future information.

So once again, a big big thank you to all the muso's and supporters, club officials and staff for making us feel so very welcome in the Unity Club last Thursday night. We have something very special happening here and it must be looked after very carefully. Why? Because LANKYKATS are making people happy and people are going home with a big smiles on their faces.

And the last word I'll leave to Mick Hannan who pointed out... The potential of the LANKYKATS is mind boggling.."

Hi Bill,

you have mentioned a "Paul Heyes" a couple of times. would it be possible to find out whether this is the same Paul who used to run for Wigan Harriers and has a brother called Mark?

Paul Hayes is TVs 'Cash In The Attic' man.

Don't know if he a ex-Wigan Harriers man... Come to The Standish Unity Club on Thurs 1 Dec and ask him? His band are playing.

We don't run Jam Sessions as such. Most bands are bona fide and rehearsed.. However, some are scratch bands who play together regularly but don't take on gigging whilst the the Jammykats session is a free-for-all, join-in, drop-out session at the end of the night.

Come and checkit out - leave ego's at home!

Hi Bill. just googled him, different person by the looks of it. the Paul Heyes i knew lived in Standish which is why i made the connection. Many thanks for the info. i live a bit away from Wigan so it would be difficult to attend but i will certainly bear it in mind as i enjoy an alternative night out and have friends in Standish.
