It was courageous Elizabeth, especially when the planes only had stretched canvas fabric over a wooden frame and couldn't possibly offer any protection from bullets.

Ignore the sarcastic posters Elizabeth, they wouldn't go up in one of those planes even in peacetime, I'm convinced that many are the same person hiding behind different user names.

I like this quote: Sarcasm: A convenient way for the bigots of the world to disguise their idiocy.

upthetims, I reported your post in answer to Elizabeth's thread as an abusive comment, I found it to be ignorant to say the least.

Elizabeth has a problem with her eyesight and struggles to type, she has made exemplary input to this forum over the years and has written many historical facts about Wigan, she continues to do this despite the difficulties she must have.

You're not the only one who has made sarcastic replies as the trolls over on General have also slid from under their stones to post their usual claptrap. With your post still showing it seems obvious that sarcastic comments about users are permitted, this forum has gone to the dogs and is it any wonder folks are leaving - I'm joining them!!

A very ill judged comment from utt,but probably not meant to be offensive.
I remember Walter Tickle was great friends with my Uncle Walter, they were known as the two Walters and they played billiards together at St Johns mens club on Standishgate.
He also played cards there with my grandad and Charlie Brogan most nights.
When St Johns cricket club was formed,Ronnie played the piano at all the functions and money raisers,a lovely chap who was a teacher at St Marys and may have ended up at Sacred Heart school.
I was unaware of Walters war achievements, but very interesting and thanks Elizabeth for the information.
