Can anyone put a map on with the Wigan Cantral Line on from the canal bridge to Lower Ince Station.

This any good Cindy?

cindy.....Maybe I can help with whatever, that area was my playground as a child. When the engine shed and goods yard was being demolished I broke my arm playing hide and seek there.

Hello Anne I was looking at the Wigan World photo section of the Central line bridge over the canal, To My knowledge once over the canal I seem to remember The Turntable on the left, Then went under the L&Y railway bridge, On the right was the Lower Ince loco shed & goods yard & to the left was the signal box & the line that went to the wagon works.Then Ince Green lane bridge & Lower Ince Station.

Yes cindy you are quite right with your description, we didn't stray quite as far as the turntable. Our play area was mainly in the other direction where the engine shed is located and along the line to the wagon works entrance.
Naughty weren't we.

Anne. Whilst possibly not a pleasant time for you, if you could recall the approximate date you had your accident as the shed was being demolished, it would help me to give an accurate date for this for my forthcoming book on the shed

Hello brwestcoast..... the nearest I can get to my hide and seek disaster could possibly have been summer 1952??. I cannot remember being at school in a plaster cast, so must have been school holidays. The place was deserted but not yet in the process of demolition. Had there been any activity from either working engines or demolition we would not have been there.
Sorry I am unable to be more accurate, best of luck with your book.

p.s. Now that I think back there seemed to be quite a long period between work ending and demolition starting.

Hello Chris I'm sure the shed was still there in the early 1960s, Perhaps If Anyone can remember when Kwiksave was built it might help.
