Hi winnie No John is never with them took me ages & a lot of John Parker's to find that out lol. You have the right family. John & Joseph are together with granparents 1871. I'm looking for Elijah on 1911 census to try & establish when he was born (Think I have right birth) & died can't seem to match up. Sorry if I confused you. With Elijah's brother Robert 1881

Posted by: winnie (1092)   Report abuse
found this on ansestry When John Parker was born in 1865 in Longton, Lancashire, his mother, Margaret, was 19. He married Elizabeth Shaw in April 1887 in Blackburn, Lancashire. They had four children during their marriage. He had one brother.

Don't like ancestry tree's they lead us a merry dance last time with the backhouse Thomas Doherty but you found the right one. Think they are wrong, we both found the same family. They put down information with no explanation. Trust you more than ancestry

Thank you winnie that's the problem have his birth as

1837 Elijah PARKER Mother's Maiden name TAYLOR Longton Preston LONG/1/13 which correspond with his age when young then every census he gets young lol.Don't understand how you can look at trees on ancestry so don't know if you can see how they reached information on John Parker. I'm going to send for his marriage but would really like to find his birth. Don't think he would have been in any wars to get date of birth. His sons were. Is there anything you can think off that I could get his birth date. Sorry to be a pain winnie but is there an address for Elijah 1911. As you gave me John's at 55 Providence St, Blackburn, just want to see if he lived close to him.

Wow thank you how did you find his baptism looked on there & came up blank for me, I must have had a no brain moment,(Thought that was baptism for John Parker, a bit strange that one) Just looked now went on wrong church, was on St Michael's Hoole were Elijah's siblings births are and Joseph's marriarge & other things. Been hard work sorting this out & thought I had to start again thank you so much. xx

Have family back to 1841 with Joseph Parker with wife Ann/Nanny, have marriage Joseph's birth form church records. Nanny first children down as Taylor not Parker. Joseph's father Joseph with them as well. From church records think his father Edward Parker. Unfortunatley they are in Penwortham workhouse in 1841. Feel free if you can get further back than this because I have no idea how to

I think Elijah's baptism in 1837 was wrongly transcribed as Joseph on Lancs opc as Joseph already on in 1836 then Edward in 1839 etc.

Posted by: washy (379) Report abuse
Have a great time winnie you deserve it
mygriffiths I have Elijha 1837 father Joseph 1803, father Joseph 1765 who's father I think is Edward. No baptism for Edward, marriage I think 1758 Edaward Parker to Mary Molyneaux. I have both baptisms for Joseph thought first one may have died but no death on there so what you say would explain no baptism for Elijah. Thank you

November 6th 1837 church record does show Joseph son of Joseph and Nanny so perhaps a church error.
June 5th 1836 has Joseph son of Joseph and Nanny also.

The above from Lancs.O.P.C.

In the year 1628 a chapel of ease, coming under the jurisdiction of Croston Parish church, was built in the township of Much Hoole by Thomas Stones of London, and in July 1641 became the Parish church of Hoole by an act of Parliament duly signed by King Charles the First.

The church was dedicated to St. Michael and All Angels for the townships of Much and Little Hoole, with a messuage called “Carr House” in Bretherton being assigned to it.

Sorry Washy I just edited John Bamford in the last post as I had put Bamber, but on checking the 1841 census the JohnBamford son of Robert and Betty is with his parents so is not the one who married Jane.
NOR is he the John Bamford who married Nanny Taylor's younger sister Ellen in 1837

Hi mygriffiths That's ok no problem, are we still thinking that this family is Elizabeth's familly though, because seems right one to me have checked other possibles.

1851 census Little Hoole
Name Age
John Bamford 44
Jane Bamford 28 should be 38
Ellen Bamford 18
Richard Bamford 12
Robert Bamford 10
Betty Bamford 8
Jane Bamford 6
John Bamford 10 Mo

I am happy with this as the Betty Bamford b. 1844 who married Elijah Parker and not his cousin Betty Bamford b.1846

Several John Bamfords born early 1800s best match for this one is the son of John and Cicely.Having ruled out Robert and Betty.

Thanks, Robert & betty did seem a good match though, especially as have son Robert.

This John still with parents in 1851.

I would have picked the John son of Robert as Jane's husband Luckly have you The other thing I can't get my head round is have Elizabeth's baptism 1844 to John & Jane but can't match up to a birth with mother Mayor. Her death seems to match an Elizabeth with a mother Marshall. It may be just me getting things wrong not been well the last couple of days, trying to take my mind off the pain. Just ignore me if getting things wrong.

Thanks I think I know what it is & I'm going to find out it's just apart of getting old

Disappointingly I cannot find further details of the marriage of John Bamford to Margaret Martin in 1846 at St.Mary's Penwortham. This couple and children Mary and Edward are living in Marsh Lane in 1851 with Margaret's parents.I think this maybe the son of Robert and Betty but agree he would fit Jane's family well.

Posted by: washy (379) Report abuse
Have found births of Richard Jane & John all mother's maiden name Mayor & all under Longton. A possible Robert under Preston. However nothing that fits Elizabeth. Think this is just one of those things we will never find out, just bugs me

Posted by: winnie (1092)   Report abuse
so who are we going with for johns parents

Posted by: mygriffiths (1076) Report abuse
The trouble with Robert and Betty is that their son John was with them on the 1841 census. The John married to Jane was with Jane on the same census which makes his parents more likely to be John and Cicely.
Lancs OPC does not have marriages for St.Mary's Penwortham for the years 1838 TO 1856 to check the Bamfod/Martin marriage.
