There's a few St john's around Wigan, St. John's in Standishgate is 200 years old this year, but there was a church on a different site before the present one. There's also a St. John's in Pemberton, a St John the Baptist in New Springs, and I think there's also a St John's in Hindley Green.

Hi Soreen, what a conundrum. I am still looking, and have found out a lot about marriage rules back in the day that I didn't know. But still not found the chapel your looking for. I'll keep trying, but it's not looking solvable at this point. I just hate being beaten!

The was only one St.John's church in Wigan district, in 1880. That's the one which is there now, in Standishgate.

Soreen, I think you have the right church. It's just online records that stop in 1860. There were plenty of marriages there after that date.
Maybe History Shop (Museum of Wigan Life) have later records?
