Vietnam and Cambodia

Started by: roylew (4148)

Well I’m going there on Thursday March 14 for 25 days...starting in Hanoi then cruising around Halong Bay..overnight train to Hue...full day train to Ho Chi Min City...cruise the Mekong to Phnom Penh...then Siem Reap...and finally 5 days on the island of Phu Quoc to chill out...always been on my wish list since I was in Saigon on the very last day of the Vietnam war back in 1975...my wife Jean would be proud of me to do this....I’m a little nervous but it should be an experience to remember hopefully

Roy...... sounds like a good trip, enjoy to the full. I have travelled alone on several occasions but admittedly not quite so adventurously, didn't have any troubles at all.

Have a great trip, Roy! One of the hidden benefits might be avoiding the rubbish at DW [rugby, I mean!] for a full 25 days. Unless you're daft enough to to catch it on Sky!

Should any of the locals say to you, "give me all of your dorrar or I brow your blains out", don't argue with them!

My son went there a few years ago and loved it. Did you not watch The Real Marigold Hotel a couple of weeks ago with the celebrities they were there? Enjoy Roy.

I was there for a while in 1970/71. Lots of American were there as well, but I don't think they were tourists.

Hugh, did you live down Liverpool Rd in Hindley. I remember a lad with that name who went into the navy.It is all very vague to me now but I remember seeing him in uniform.I cannot even put a face to the name.Hope you do not mind me asking. He had nickname which I cannot even remember.I was told he went to the Antarctic survey team later. This is putting my brain in overdrive,Pommel ?

No - we lived in Haigh, then moved to Leyland in 1964. I went to sea in the Merchant Navy, not RN, in 1968 and am still working full time with ships, although now office-based in Glasgow. I was in Saigon for about 8 months, 1970/71 on an oil tanker 'Texaco Wellington', on a US military charter.
