Haydock Lodge Asylum

Anyone know where the patient records from the 1920’s might be held for this asylum?

Most of the records for that period are held at the Lancashire Record Office in Preston.

Thanks for that Bentlegs. Before it was an asylum it was one of the homes of the Legh family, who were very rich and owned Lyme House, near Stockport. They made their money transporting coal, using the railway, in Haydock. Lyme House well worth a visit.

Hard to tell from what I have found and read on relevant websites, but would it seem logical that most, if not all asylums by the 1920’s, would have included some degree of a medical assessment (both mental and physical) in a patients records, either at the time of admission or very shortly thereafter?

Ranger asked, "Does anyone know where the Haydock Lodge Asylum was located"?
Yes. It was located off Lodge Lane, HAYDOCK. The housing development, Haydock Park Gardens, is built on the site.

1972 map showing the extent of the mental hospital.
The Welsby Brothers had just sold their scrap metal business, top left on the map, to the Norcros conglomerate. It is now an office park.

I worked there for a few months.. when it was more a Care Home, than Hospital.. I did see all the Upstairs where the Hospital part used to be, some of the old beds were still there..... a bit unsettling to see...
Downstairs, the Ballroom and Visitors rooms where beautiful.. every room full of antiques.. I wish I could have had some..
