Ashton Heath

Started by: chimpbal (24)

I’ve recently been intrigued by the history in and around Ashton Heath and the Lane that leads to Haydock Races via the old railway line.
Looking on old maps there appears to be some buildings (approx 4 cottages) on the corner of there and Tara’s Lane, then partway down before the farm there is what looks like more buildings, these are just fields now and my boyfriend has Ashton Heath Farm, this also is steeped in history going off all the old stone and the barn and was also a blacksmiths at one point. We have some info about the farm when Mary used to have it but nothing prior to that.
We’ve also been out in the fields with the metal detector and found a smallish chunk of iron ore.....was there iron mines near by?
Kerry :)
