Nerja is a nice place. There's so much to see and visit in the area that I wouldn't spend two weeks there without a hire-car.
Balcony of Europe!

I've been there twice and as said it's a very nice place,
My ADVISE, Don't take s advise if he tries to send you anywhere for a good night out as he is not to be trusted with that sort of thing

Cardiac hill down to the beach...a taxi back is a must....it’s not a “typical Spanish resort” ala Fuengirola but pleasant enough

Fuengirola is shite! and Nerja is not near it. The better places to visit are Granada, Seville and Gibraltar (by train if you don't like driving).
There's more to Spain than sand, sea and British holidaymakers!

the reason i booked here is because it looks like a nice spanish town and not like Blackpool in the sun !!!!

"Fuengirola is shite!" says Tonker.
Which parts of Fuengirola are "shite" Tonker?
Are you talking about the immediate town area or the more outlying urbanisations within the district?
You don't need to immerse yourself in Britishness to enjoy Fuengirola, in fact these days the British are quite outnumbered. For a more Spanish feel try the Carvajal area of Fuengirola, especially on a weekend.
Or is it just a generalisation based on a week or two walking along the paseo near the harbour in summer?
Just curious.
I agree. Sevilla and Granada plus Malaga are prettier but it depends on what you are looking for in a Spanish experience and where you want to be as a base within striking distance of other areas.
For the perfect Spanish holiday I recommend getting the ferry to Bilbao/Santander and driving to the South and back staying in Paradores especially at Toledo, far better than standard hotels, (but only if you like driving and exploring as it is quite a treck).
BTW, you can't get to Gib by train unless you get the bus from Algeciras.

They packed us into the white hotel,
you could still smell the Polycell,
wet white walls in this air-conditioned cell.
The waiter smells of fake Chanel, Gauloises, Garlic as well,
he said, if we want we could call him Miguel, well, really?
Anyone for a Watney's Red Barrel?
