Sound of the Crickets
Started by: daveŠ (3312) Report abuse
Does anyone from the Bickershaw/Hindley Green area remember the sound of the crickets about 1960? I think it was caused by some land disturbance.

GB, I think it was caused by some land disturbance near the former TBA Asbestos works, behind the place, where the tip was, if your wife was in Thomas Street at the time, she would probably have had a ringside seat to the cricket orchestra, unfortunately, the crickets only had one song. At the time, you could be forgiven for thinking you where out in wild west of America.

GB, I lived to the rear of the former Kirkpatrick Mill, now ALDI. You could hear them there, yes, played about when I was a kid all over the pit area, there was a partially demolished building there that we'd often go in, no health and safety worries in those days. Yes, happy days.
