Hindley station 1960s?

Started by: ashtonman01 (219)

Came across this photo on eBay labeled as Hindley railway station:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PHOTO-HINDLEY-RAILWAY-STATION-1960S-VIEW-WITH-TOTEMS-IN-VIEW-/361954202085?hash=item544626d1e5:g:ge8AAOSwPgxVRIog

No idea what the station looked like in the 60s but to me it dosent really look much like Hindley station. To me it looks more like Daisy Hill or Westhoughton.

I don't think it's Hindley station also. Looking at the pic I'm sure they still had gas lighting, but it looks like electric lighting.

Definitely not Hindley. For a start, Hindley had four tracks in the 60's. Could be Daisy Hill.

The actual entrance which says 'Hindley' on it looks to me like the one up Ladies Lane/Hall Lane in Hindley.

What the footbridge is there for in the middle if it is Hindley station I don't know. Could it not be the old Hindley South Station?.

It looks nothing like Hindley station, either north or south, there were four tracks, but there were buildings between each pair.

The closest match I can find is Westhoughton station. Looking at a street view image there is a similarity. The tress surrounding it match, though the footbridge dosent.

Hindley South didn't have a footbridge that I remember we used to play there when it closed down when we were kids.

It is not a station in Hindley.I cannot make up my mind from the photo if it is a third rail system or just lengths of track laying by the lines.I just about remember Hindley Green station but I do not remember a footbridge and there was no footbridge at Hindley South.

I have a feeling that we have had this one before, possibly on 'another place', and someone claimed it is one of the stations on Liverpool's third rail electrified line.

My memory not what it used to be though, so excuse me if it turns out not to be so.

Totems refers to the station identification signs you see on station platforms.Pity we cannot read these. The station on the photo looks very rural and could be unmanned.
