Ashton-in-Makerfield station old photos
On the disused stations website there a couple of old and rare photos of the former Ashton train station. Quite a lot of detailed info about said former station; no idea how these people find out such detailed history about these railways, especially precise opening and closing dates and when it was last used for passenger services. As far as I know, there are only two photos of this station that are on WW. Surprised the photo of the station master and staff hasnt been uploaded, if it has then I haven't seen it within the Ashton album.
I wonder how many will remember this station?. I had only heard about it through my dad, but he only has a vague recollection of it, together with Haydock Racecourse station.

Whups
There was another station inside the racecourse, Haydock Park Station.
Ashton Station was on the opposite side of the road where Welsby's had their scrap yard. It was within the Haydock boundary.

Pity these lines were not Mothballed, just think what an Assett These Stations & Lines would be today.

It is such ashame these old lines aren't still around. To think the amount of stations we had in the area, stations in nearly every town. I doubt it would make much difference to traffic, people would still drive there and park up then hop on the train, and the car park would be chocka on a weekday. What they need to do is lower the extortionate fares, but of course they wont.
