Beehive

Does anyone remember a small pond in New Springs locally known as the Beehive? I think it was off to the left just after what used to be the Alex pub heading up towards Aspull. Even better if anyone has a photo of it? Just a thought.

I didn't say the Alex was in New Springs, I said the Beehive pond was, If you read it again you'll see I put "just after what used to be the Alex pub"

My Apologies,Not Sure if this is the one You mean, Carry on up the hill towards The Boundary & Just before it on the left (about80 yards?)there used to be a dirt track That went to the Pit, There was a small pond on the left hand side It was Fed from the brook that came through Marshals fields

No probs, sorry if i sounded a bit 'sharp'! Yes that sounds just about dead on for where it was located. I never actually went but I have a mate who keeps asking me if I know anyone who knew the place, I said i was 99% sure someone on here would know it. And I was right! : ) Thanks for that.

pond now long gone, some years after someone drowned there

The pond was filled in due to the open cast mining operation in the early eighties.

I used to fish there in the 70's if I remember right the fishing club that fished it used to hold their meeting's in the Bridgewater Pub that was situated just over the canal bridge in New Springs
