I went a couple of times with friends when we were only about 16. All I remember was lots of small rooms and lots of stairs.

When I was a taxi driver for Jack Hurst in the late 1960s one of my regulars was Ken, destination was always the same -- Room at the Top in Wigan, near the old Market Square

He lived at Wakefield Crescent Standish, always paid with sixpences; they came from the one armed bandits at his club

The field opposite to the Dormer Bungalows was owned jointly by all the residents so that it couldn't be built on

I remember his then wife was quite attractive, they had a daughter who was then in her teens

Ken also had some kind of club in Southport

I remember going to the Room at the Top and being worse for wear off four pints (I was only sixteen at the time)and I fancied this girl I had been chatting to ,anyroad I offered to walk her to the last bus but as we got outside and I saw her in "proper" light I pretended to need the toilet and promptly did a runner one of the perils of dark smokey rooms
