Gate lodge to Abram Hall farm.

Started by: nightchap (315)

Can anybody help me out with a picture of this building. I have seen a faded black & white photo in a publication, but for the life of me I can't remember which publication. I know I was at my mothers house some years ago when I saw this photo and I have looked through every book/publication that I can lay my hands on without success. The building stood on the left hand side of the entrance and was either of white stone or painted white. Thanks

Obviously! But, there was several farms in Abram. I know where Abram Hall was. A friend's dad had the farm land where Maypole Colliery used to be and the old hospital down Park Lane. I just wondered if that farm was the Abram Hall Farm and where this 'gate-house' would have been?
Another friend of mine lives in that old house behind the church. The one called Springfield House, near the bus stop.

Abram Hall Farm is still there. The old house was demolished many years ago and a new one built nearer to the main road. The farm is between Warrington Road & the canal. The entrance lane is roughly opposite Park Lane. The house that I am after a photo of stood on the left as you look down the entrance to the farm. The farm is now a riding school/livery operation.

I know the place. I thought that used to be Abram Hall and the farm was elsewhere.
Do you remember the old smallpox hospital down Park Lane?

I remember the building on Park Lane that you are referring to. I used to know it as an ex Sanatorium rather than a hospital. A smallpox hospital did exist ( before my time ) further over towards the Junction pit, isolated in the middle of a field. Could be that the operation moved to the building on Park Lane and the one in the field demolished.

Could've. I know the bloke who now lives in that building. Sitting on £millions and claiming housing benefit. But that's another story!

Thanks mick I'll have a look. The photo that I have seen is a dedicated photo of the lodge and not in the background of an event or of something in the foreground.
