the old Crawford Arms pub at Red Rock

Started by: i-spy (15252)

drove past it yesterday and they seem to be adding an extension to the building. Anybody know what's happening. It's been shut for a while after the restaurant flopped.

Most likely a Chinese or Indian restaurant, nearly all the empty pubs are being taken over with them, there is one at Plat Bridge (Moss Lane) being turned into one

Definitely not Chinese or Indian it will be run by an Englishman.
He is keeping the Bridge 63 name as well.

The word is that the pub may reopen with a cafe/ice cream parlour attached-hence the extension!
perhaps not a bad idea!

they are making slow progress but it has been like that for a while, i'm guessing they are probably taking their time and aiming for a March / April opening?

Somebody told me they same people are opening the new pub in Swinley and had switched their efforts to that for now - not sure how true that is.

I'm driving past nearly every day and they seem to work on it for a month or so and then have a couple of months off.

Hope they get it up and running in time for the summer trade.

I hope they don't start putting a slice of orange on their turkey salads, or they'll fail as well!

There should be some way of ensuring that these old pubs keep their historical names, even those that are restaraunts. Very often there is so much attached to the names and they are a part of our tradition and heritage.

Dunno why

i enjoyed fishing along the canal there a few years ago, i remember watching them get deliveries, a fruit and veg wagon used to pull up and it was driven by a young girl, the veg was taken off the wagon by a young lad, it always made me smile, i cant remember who they worked for, but it looked hard work, i think they came from Standish but i,m not sure, its 30 odd years ago

That fruit and veg wagon would've been delivering oranges, to put on their Turkey Salad Barm Joeys!

The last time I was in there the chef did a runner just as we arrived so they shut the kitchen down, that was about 3 or 4 years ago, the time before that I was in there with my wife to be, I had borrowed my uncles vauxhall cresta and parked on the carpark to the rear of the pub, well when we tried to drive off the clutch went and no way could I getup the slope to the road , it finished up with me being towed into gorden fords and my wife and friends going home in a taxi, all in all a very expensive night out, so that pub doesnt do it for me

"The last time I was in there the chef did a runner just as we arrived "

He must have run out of oranges!

PS: "I had borrowed my uncles vauxhall cresta ...... the clutch went ..... towed into gorden fords"

Taking a sick Vauxhall into Gordons Ford for repair isn't normal behaviour!

Nothing going on at the moment, i-spy.
The plan was for a single storey extension with decking area, the extension has been built, but they haven't worked on any part of the pub at all this year.

It is supposed to be opening as a pub and coffee house, but when....

Fifty years ago we would walk up the canal bank from the old boat house to the Crawford Arms.
We were certainly ready for a glass of beer when we arrived.
