James Lang was a neighbour of the girl he murdered. Her name was Jacqueline Young and they lived in Lancaster Road, Hindley. She had only gone out for an ice cream and whatever he said to her she must have trusted him because she knew him.She was such a pretty young thing too, only 12years old. This was about 1974
After he was released(which I personally don't think he should have been)he went to live in Southport and we heard that he attacked a woman there but we don't know what became of him after that.

i knew her mother slightly, I know she was upset when he was about to be released from prison that he was going to be living near her

in my opinion he should have never been set free.

she did live at number 76 lancaster rd in hindley look at this now Wigan's most notorious child killer is trying to sue the NHS for 3m.

Jimmy Lang, now known as James Kay, raped and then killed 12-year-old Susan Young in Hindley almost 32 years ago.

Convicted of both the sex assault and manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility, he was sent to Broadmoor to serve out his life sentence. But he was later released on licence after only 14 years. Within six months he had tried to choke a girl of 16 and a 21-year-old woman and was sent back to Broadmoor.

He is now claiming that the top security hospital has been “negligent in its duty of care” towards him after he was attacked on one of the wards.

Susan’s mum Audrey, now a 72-year-old widow, is inconsolable at the news. She said: “I think it’s disgusting. He shouldn’t be getting anything. It’s laughable that justice is so gullible.”

This is not the first time that Lang has filed for compensation. In an out of court settlement in 2000, 56-year-old Lang was reportedly given 26,000 after he suffered an Achilles tendon injury while playing cricket in 1995 at the Berkshire secure unit.

He claimed at the time of the accident that he had not been given proper treatment by the doctors.

On November 7 1970, Susan Young left her house in Lancaster Road, Hindley to buy an ice cream. When she did not return her father Ray went to find her and later teamed up with neighbour Jimmy Lang for the search. Her body was found at the back of the old Hindley Grammar School. Lang had inflicted horrific injuries on her, including 26 wounds to the throat with a broken bottle.

After the court case it came to light that he had a long criminal record and had only been out of prison for a few weeks having served a three year sentence for rape.

My mum lived on Lincoln Road as a youngster in the 1970's. in the pre fabs. I think Susan was the same age as my mums younger sister and they knew each other well. She has told me the story a few times, surprised they ever released him, and how he has the nerve to sue anybody is beyond me.

At the time of the murder I was a typist in CID with the police in Wigan and the things he did to that poor child were unbelievable. If my memory serves me right he even accompanied the child's father looking for her.

Ye Gods, he should have been nailed to a tree and had people throw increasingly larger stones at his body. Why hasn't a Solicitor or similar counter sued him for any monies and given it to the little Girls Parents or charity?

Susan Young was murdered by James Antony Lang, he was a next door neighbour who went to look for Susan with Susan's Dad, by this time Susan's body was under the floorboards of Lang, her body was taken by a pram to behind Leyland Park, NOT grammar school, I had been working at my garage at the top of Eckersley Ave all day Saturday / Sunday, Susan's body was about 75 yards from my garage in a ditch, ( may be half a mile from the grammar school), Lang at one time escaped jail and raped a girl, then back into jail, he was released from jail with a new ID ( Scum )

As a youngster, I remember the murder of a young girl in Ince making national headline news in the media because a murder prior to the early sixties only happened now and again.

As a result of the death penalty being abolished and petty punishments there are now that many murders that most are no longer of interest to the media!

Time for a re-think perhaps!
