You still get a type of rag and bone man going round the streets but now they are usually on the back of a pickup and the only thing they want is scrap metal, There are 2 brothers who live close to me who make quite a good living out of it.

Hi,I have many memories of him coming around we never knew to run and hide,but my Mum used to tell me that they made good money more power to them!!

we used to get my gran or me mum to find something so we could get a goldfish (me gran wanted donkey stones for her step!!)

My Dad shot a pellet up the rag and bone mans harris when I was tiny, the horses legs were buckling under the weight of the cart and he was whupping up a hill....didn't see him for ages after that!

i remember the rag&bone man with his horse and cart but where i lived as a little one in harvey st lower ince my mam used to put red cardinal on the step & the window sill.
this awoke another memory,she used to do our walking day sandles with a whitening and put them on the front window sill to dry as that got the sun.

Hello Plum47,that's a smell you'll never forget that whitening cream for your sandles and pumps,but it didn't last long as it dried to a powder and fell off.

they had to be done every week,mind you me and my sisters were little rips,i was always coming in with ripped frocks cause i was always climbing ,walls railings ect.i was only little but if you wanted to play with the other kids,boys as well,you had to be able to keep up.

the rag&bone man still comes round here alot, he has a white van, as he goes shouting down the street half the kids do to, they think its quite funny,,i thought they had stopped untell i saw them here

remember the guy on a byke sharpening knives garden shears ect ect.usualy a gypsy, but no one ever realised this. (not that it makes any diff)
