What about Leigh cats and dogs home, or has that closed now? I got my dog from there years ago, and they were very good, lots to choose from. Good luck anyway. [:0]

Leigh cats and dogs home is still going strong and will cater for any ones preferences, but they do want good references.

Good for you Snoopy. How's about trying the RSPCA? I'm not a great lover of dogs 'cos I'm scared of them after a cross between a bull mastiff/great dane came charging down the road at me barking it's head off. I'd done nowt wrong but a man (not the owner) urged me to keep walking. I'm only 5ft tall and the dog would have easily stood at 5' 6" on its hind legs!! I survived that but I wish you well in your search.

Must be Harold - not a common name.

I went to school with his lad David too.

leigh animal sanctuary is good but, for the price you have to pay for dog that could have been picked up off the streets, with a personality you dont know, or habits they havent seen, is too much.
i went last year after i had to have my rottwieler put to sleep, i had my eye on a few, but for peace of mind (when it came to temperment) i got a pup from a breeder, and it was only a few quid extra. i also went to a sancturay in bolton, forgot what it was called but it wasnt too far away from the collage, they have asessments and they have voulenteers walking the dogs on a daily basis, so thier habits and temperment come into true light, but they sell them on pretty quick and i missed out on a dog i was looking at.

Our dog is a mongrel we av ad from Leigh cats n dogs home. He is ten. Luv im to bits but he cost fifty quid ten years ago so that was a lota money - cudda almost got a pedigree for that then. He is a cranky old bugger too. Dunt like babies - sh*t scared of em. Good wi folks but absolutely detests other dogs cos he as been attacked twice. Last time was about two yrs ago. Two big dogs jumped him and almost tore his nose off. It cost an arm and ten legs at the vets. Now he dives in first, every dog he sees and theres no stoppin im, so we is scared every time we tek im out now. We tried a muzzle but he absolutely detested it. Unfortunately that means he dunt go out much as even then has to mostly stay on the lead. It aint his fault, but thar ya go

re leigh animal sanctuary
very comendable rescuing a homeless dog but its probably best to get it from a proper rescue charity not a buisness. one that does checks on the people they home to,has some idea of the dogs behavior and is run by people who genuinely have the dogs best interests at heart.
