Hello everybody,
I'm a student from Poland and going to spend my holidays in Wigan:) I was wondering if anyone could tell me how things are there-I mean-what you do in your free time, etc.

Hello makalu,

Are you looking for something specific?

Theres lots to do in Wigan - whatever interests you there will be something to do or somewhere to go. Wigan is close to the cities of Manchester and Liverpool, so you will be spoilt for choice.

Thanks, the link works:)
"Plantations" look quite nice. I was afraid that won't find any green places in that town;)

I've got one more question-not directly connected with Wigan, but still with my travel there. Do you happen to know if a Polish Student Card is valid in the UK? It would facilitate many things as I'd be able to get a travel discount.

Hi,
It's me one more time. Could you tell me how much a furnished flat costs in Wigan? I'm looking for some with 2bedrooms, living room, kichen and bathroom.

Makalu, I think you would have to pay something like £400-00 per month for a flat like that.

Bentlegs, £400 a month is dirt cheap. Ive been looking for an unfurnished anything for my daughter and there is absolutely nothing going so cheap. You can add another £100 min for unfurnished and dearer still for furnished property. The cheapest Ive seen is in thickness Ave, Beech Hill a 2 bed unfurnished for £300, but you need a hefty deposit and pay an £85 credit check (that you can get urself for £2 from Experian or Equifax, but which they wont accept!)

However, most Eastern European visitors are automatically given somewhere to live by the 'caring' local council.

"...automatically given somewhere to live by the 'caring' local council."

-What does it mean? And why Eastern Europeans?
By the way, thank you all for answers:)

It means you may be able to apply to the local council for council housing. If you are not working there may (or may not)be provision for your rent to be paid for you.
Lots of Eastern Europeans have done this successfully I this is what tonker means.
