Bacon

Started by: flockhound (160)

Just rang home and the Mrs stated that it was a fry up for tea, how I envy you Wiganers and the quality bacon that can be bought from around the market, not to mention some good pork sausages, its c**p over here in Oz, its all the same bacon, does not matter if you buy it in Perth or Bulamacanka its all the same, Gammon! never seen it here, streaky bacon, its all streaky, so do me a favour someone, fry up a bacon butty and enjoy it, whilst I chew away on some tastless peice of pig.

Flockhound,I've been here 40 years and I've never had much problem finding good pork products,it's a matter of knowing where to look.I must admit that I had difficulty locating gammon but I managed to get some at a local deli, fully imported from UK,sad to say he shut up shop recently but I'll start looking again.I also get some reasonable pork pies from Woolies, not as good as Marsdens of Chorley, but the woman who markets them got her training at Mowbrays(I think) in UK.

Thanks to all, my bacon butties were reasonable, but not as good as your lots, anyhow dont get me started on sausage rolls, was back in Wigan a couple of years back and could not walk past a bakery or pie shop without havin one, I thin Greenhalches (spelt that wrong) were the best.

Flockhound and Aussie Roy, there is a butcher here in Melbourne called 'Rob's British Butchers' who specialises in meats produced the British way. He does a whole range of meats, including bacon and gammon. I know he supplies the David Jones foodhalls (expensive I know) both here and interstate, so he may be worth a call to see if he supplies somewhere near you as well.

I'm not sure we have a David Jones foodhall in Canberra,I know we used have because when I had one their credit cards I would buy some groceries on tick till payday plus I would sometimes use my card in the liquor shop,"Hic on the Tick" I used to call it.Anyway thanks Aussiepomsal or(do I call you Sal),I'll check that out when I get back home.
