I have just had a sken on the classifieds
and noticed some gollywogs for sale,I have always like them from being little
even the ones on the jam jars.Do you think that the black people of our country are right to be offended by the dolls,or are they just harmless dolls for kids. And if a child asks what they are, what do you say
do you tell them what they represent or just say its a black doll.PS Should they be banned? NO RACIST COMMENTS PLEASE thank you.

i think they were banned some years ago.my youngest daughter works at a nusery and they HAVE to have what i think are called ethnic dolls.black ,chinese and asian.the other thing is that if a little boy wants to play with a doll they have to leave him to play with it.(maybe its in case they want to be a house husband).the same thing if a little girl wants to play with a fire engine.equal oppertunities.wish i was a plummer sometimes.

When I was little in the 50s I had a gollywog and I loved him to bits. One year my mum bought me a black dolly to play with and I loved her to bits as well. Back in the 50s a lot of people came over from Jamaica to find work and a better way of life and surely to goodness, little Jamaican girls would want to play with black dollies as a white dolly wouldn't have felt right for them. I was brought up to be 100% non-racist, which I remain to this day. Dolls of all ethnic races should be welcomed if we are a multi-ethnic country, which we now are, like it or lump it.

You know something Mollie I had a black doll most of my childhood, theres 2 in the toy box upstairs too. All my baby pics I was clutching that dolly.I didn't know wot racist was till my teens, when the human rights idiots started to throw the word around. Its got so petty that folk are scared to open their mouths, racism is an awful thing and its serious when it does happen, but banning gollywogs, baaa baa black sheep, it makes a mockery out of real racism issues.

I'm playing devils advocate here,So are they just harmless black teddys with
negro features,Frizzy hair, big lips and big eyes. What are gollywogs supposed to be and even the name what does that mean.
And the main question i asked was should
black people be offended by them, not black dolls but Gollywogs.

My golliwog never had 'negro' features, merely a round, black, flat face. If it had had negro features I'd have 5h17 myself!
