Today done nothing except sit in my garden with all my family round in shorts and whatever , nice gentle breeze blowing lovely, very warm but decided to put a thermometer in my back garden which we dont use very much to see what the heat was like there ,could not believe the reading we got my digital thermometer went off the scale at 40 centigrade brought it back into my front garden where it went down to 38 which is very warm (100) fahrenheit as anyone else had the same readings as me.

That's exactly right Mandie. There are two kinds, refrigerated and evaporative, the latter being the oldest form of cooling, although they are not as effective in very humid climates and I use one in summer when the temperature climbs into the 30s.They are inexpensive to run, portable and because where I live it is mainly a dry heat quite effective.

An ac is an air conditioner, which we need very much in our apartment.

We don't need them over here, as the air in England comes 'naturally conditioned'.
