research

Started by: elizabeth (5439)

When I first started doing research into my family about 6 yrs ago , it was amazing how much you could find out, the only cost in those days was for the B M D Certificates you required , now Ancestry .com seem to have taken everything over and every thing you have to pay for , it makes me so mad , it has taken all the joy out of looking and must deter a lot of people doing there family, I actually got back to 1547 and all I ever payed for were certificates when I got stuck. just fed up and wanted a moan

That's O.K. elizabeth, everyone's entitled to moan (don't think that's got to be paid for yet - give 'um time! ). Know what you mean though, now as everyone seems to be looking for their family members, it costs!

Same old story, if there is a quid to be made ........ that's why public libraries are so useful even though they don't have all the information available.

liz my dear lady...for £60 quid, you can access all the files from genealogy registers to your hearts content.all from the little chair in your pute room.the cencus records will give you the same deal. i reckon, given the car running costs, and individual costs tracing your family(believe me, ive been there)this is as cheap as chips.

will get more info from my youngest. she,s the one been doing the tree for the past 6 years. she is quite conversant on how to go about it. i do know at first she(and me )were driving all over the place piecing together evidence. she now sits at the pute, logs in to ancestry and bingo, away she goes. like i said liz, she paid 60 quid, and its a very good price considerig. dont forget, there are a lot of phoneys out there ready to take your cash.
i will get some more info for you when she comes up at the weekend.
take care.
