Refund.
I had a holiday booked and paid for, leaving tomorrow.
Just received a full refund from Jet2. No trying to talk me into rebooking on another date or fobbing me off with vouchers. I will certainly book with this company again in the future, if they survive this of course.

"No trying to talk me into rebooking on another date"
I'd two flights booked with Ryanair. They 'want' me to accept a refund. Everything guides me to accepting a refund, rather than transferring the flights to a later date. The flights were, I think, £34.98 each, Liverpool - Reus, return.
Now, my reasoning is as follows -
If I accepted a refund, I'd get £69.96 back.
I've checked the future flight prices, and they've all skyrocketed! So, instead of paying over £200 for the next flights, I want to transfer the ones I've paid only £69.96 for. To transfer the flights to a date at my convenience is my right, according to the EU261 cancelled flights rules.
"I will certainly book with this company again in the future"
That being the case, would it not be more economical to have transferred your booking to a later date, at your convenience, at the price you's already paid?, rather than pay the inflated prices which will surely come after this fiasco?
Jet2 are just as good a company as the rest of 'em!

In my case. A refund is preferably to the other options.

I think some are worried in case the company goes bust, i would take a refund.
Replied: 27th Apr 2020 at 16:59
Yes, I suppose it depends how you're fixed. I fly over there more or less every month and can go at a moments notice, so I'm better off transferring.
What I was pointing out is the fact that, if you take a refund (like they offered you, without talking you into rebooking at a later date) you'll have to pay more when you "certainly book with this company again in the future"!

DO ABTA, ATOL or even CC companies not step into the breach? I was booked with Thomas Cook last November to travel from Manchester to Tenerife and even though I had only booked using my UK debit card HSBC stepped up and refunded me. They had the preprinted form on their web site the same day Thomas Cook went bust. A very simple procedure.

I paid for three flights with Monarch using my M&S Credit Card, they went bust & M&S refunded right away

i flew a few times with monarch and thought they where very good as opposed to ryan air, etc.
Replied: 27th Apr 2020 at 18:07
baker boy,
I have flown a few times with Ryan Air and no problems. If you follow the terms of booking no problem. It is those that take more weight than they booked etc. that get ripped off.
Replied: 27th Apr 2020 at 18:10
I've flown with Monarch, Easyjet, Jet2, Vuelling, but I fly with Ryanair mostly. Only short-hauls, I don't see any difference excepting the price. Same plane, same ride, same time, same procedure (except Vuelling, and they use Airbus!)
For prices like £34.98 return, it's a no-brainer!

Presumably you don't try to carry a small compressor and air gun on!!! You follow the terms of your booking. Easy peasy.

Indeed! But, I'm not one of these who takes all by belongings with me when I go. I don't expect, nor want, a three course meal, or a bottle of wine. I never need to go for a squirt either. It's only two hours and I'm a grown up!

He said he would charge them a euro to have a pee
Replied: 27th Apr 2020 at 18:42
Example: Ryanair = £34.98 or Jet2 = £75.00
One is £40 less than the other. Who do you choose?
'IF' Ryanair charged you for a piss, think how many you could have for the £40 you saved?
Ryanair might charge you for extra baggage, but so will all the rest.
Ryanair might charge you £10 for a butty and a drink. So will the rest of 'em!
Ryanair might charge you for picking your seat. So will the rest of 'em, but it's only about £6, but why would you want to pick your own seat?
I'm boring. I do the same thing every flight. I get myself a 'Meal Deal' from Boots. A choice of butty, a drink and a sweet for £3.99. My favourite is the Coronation Chicken sandwich, litre of water and a flapjack. Every time!
Replied: 27th Apr 2020 at 18:51
I do like a flapjack.
I never use the facilities when flying either.

The airlines who are being difficult over refunds now will be the ones to suffer later, providing they survive this of course.

I have eight flights booked with Ryanair this year (round trips between me and mrs 0 years) and a few days ago I received an email to say the first one had been cancelled. After ferreting my way through the voucher nonsense I found the refund online bot communication point which said not to log off as I was in a queue. After almost 4 hours wait I got fed up and logged off (I suspect this is their tactic). It's going to be a long summer ). If anyone has any tips.
I also have a flight booked with Transavia, no choice there, a voucher or nowt.....and don't get me started on Easyjet!

0 Years - I find it strange that you say "ferreting my way through the voucher nonsense", as I've got two cancelled flights and I've been offered refund or transfer. No vouchers have been mentioned.
I've had the same problem with not being able to get through. None the less, they're held by the EU261 regulation.
That said, they'll do their sums. If the fine for breakung the EU261 rule is €10 million, and they stand to lose €40 million if they honour it, I think they'll choose the fine.
I know I would!

Yes Tonker, I was also offered a refund over a week ago and sent them the claim email as requested, then a few days ago I was "given" a voucher without asking complete with voucher number. After further research on tinternet it seems that they have changed their stance this week and despite offering a refund I now have to claim it via this online bot. Problem is you can't get through. Others are also whinging about it.
Seems they are back tracking.

They're buggers! But, actually, they don't have to pay anybody, anything, as these cancellations could be classed as 'exceptional circumstances'. Probably?
Take what they offer, when they offer it! might be the best advice?
Replied: 28th Apr 2020 at 22:23
Yes, I might end up taking the voucher, I am sort of happy to do so as, like you, I use them quite a bit. The only problem is, if you don't use it within twelve months of issue it runs out. In these uncertain times who knows if we will be able to (or want to) travel by air within twelve months.
The Transavia one lasts for 18 months and if you haven't used it you can request a refund at that point which is quite good...…..if they are still in business.

Tonker, I was reading somewhere that if you can prove you have essential business interests elsewhere, you will be allowed to travel.

Just an update for anyone else in a similar position.
I followed the instructions on Chatty's link (Thanks Chatty ) and managed to get promises of refunds along with confirmation emails from both Easyjet and Ryanair but boy did they try to ram the vouchers down my throat first.
I made a point of simply typing "I have a question to ask" every time they asked what my enquiry was about, previously I had mentioned a refund and got nowhere. As a result I got through in minutes whereas before it had been hours without getting through.
Encouraged by this I went back to Transavia and even got a promise of a refund from them!
Promises are one thing but at least a bit of progress has been made.
Thanks to all for the tips.
