VE day project

Started by: maureenobern (1)

In commemoration of VE day in May I am collecting letters that were sent from local soldiers to families, and vice versa, during WW2. I am hoping to publish them online alongside any photos and if I can get funding hopefully publish a book. If anyone has any letters of this kind and is interested in being involved in this project please message me or email me at

Thanks a lot

Much to my regret when I was sorting out my grandmother's house I came across a load of letters which my uncle had sent from Japan, and I threw the letters away and kept the envelopes. which had the army post marks which are collectable and which I subsequently sold

oh admin! That is a shame but we all throw out stuff and it's only later that we see the value. When mum died i found photos of her brother in the army. Lots didn't feature him so they got thrown but really I'm sure some military group would have valued them.
