What's the oldest thing in your wardrobe
Started by: i-spy (14349)  Report abuse
It was being discussed on the radio and it seemed like the clothes we like to hang onto are wedding dresses and school blazers.
I've got an ancient leather jacket but I can't believe it ever fitted me

My hubby was given a leather wallet for his 21st so its 57 years old & I still have the mother of the brides outfit from 1994

1994 sounds like yesterday

Have got a sort of cravat or neckerchief which I have had since 1960's. And it was second hand when I acquired it. Remember that I swapped a 7 inch single vinyl Ruby Tuesday for it.

Still have my slide rule too. I used it yesterday, for the first time since about 1969. Fountain pens, I do still use routinely, as I feel they are more pleasant to use than ball point.

Ice pie....I am assuming you meant clothing, I have a sari and choli from 1964. The sari will still fit 😀 Of course it will! the choli won't. I once won a challenge to find an item of clothing that would still fit after thirty years with it. The oldest item stored in my wardrobe is a wartime(?) utility marked pair of bed sheets still wrapped in blue ribbon and cellophane rescued from an elderly relatives house clearance. There are some older items about the house rescued from the same relatives house clearance. I may add of no great value other than sentimental.

I still have the outfit I wore to come over to the USA in, in 1975, no, I can't fit into it, I weighed 7 stone then.. I also have my Wedding dress.. The oldest things would be the pair of Navy blue gloves, my Mam wore when she got married in 1942...

Forgot about my wedding dress 1962, thanks for the reminder Joell.

It is my original 1940s dress that I wear to 1940s events. It is dusky pink crepe-de-chine and is older than me! I often see dresses of the same colour on Foyle's War and similar 1940s-set programmes so I think it must have been a popular material and colour. I am wearing it on the little photo to the left of this post. Just click on my name.

Mindar's post reminded me that my auntie, now in her 90's and widowed for 30 years, still has my uncle's ashes in the wardrobe. She wants hers scattering with his.

Anne, I have only just seen your post. I remember you showing Peter and I those utility sheets. I am wearing a fur cape over the forties dress on my little photo but "Ike", the fox-fur you so kindly gave me, is what I wear to most events. He certainly gets about!!

I have a white silk scarf that my dad found in the snow about 1963 I used to wear it over my face when riding on the motorbike.
