Carrots

Inspired by the cabbage thread.

What does one do with them apart from boil or in salads Are there any other ways to eat them? Looking for inspiration.

"Carrots"

Was the very famous reply Churchill got to his question, "Is there ANYTHING that we are NOT short of?"

Failed to find it when having a search online, but came across this little gem.

"People were inventive in how they boosted the supply of proper butter at home. Some people recalled that you’d do things like sweet talk the women at work canteens to put lots of butter on a scone, and then not eat it, but bring it home and scrape off the butter for use at home." (works canteen food was not rationed.)

I like carrots and I never spoil the taste of any foods by changing it with spice/herbs/seasoning, I want the carrots to taste like carrots, I can't understand folks that have a bacon butty, then plaster it with brown sauce or ketchup, then put salt on it and wrap it musterd,

or is it me, everywhere you go today you get sachets of sauce and dressings,

I remember when canteen always had "carrots and turnips" on the menu, but what you always got was "carrot and swede". I could never understand why the aversion to putting the name, swede, on the menu.

Wonder if it was the same reason why people would not eat the powdered egg from US in WW2 because it had the Bald Eagle on the label.

We shall be making a carrot casserole later today. We dine out on Christmas Day and that is our contribution along with the mushy peas.

After all the prep I passed on the carrot casserole. ( too many starters) Just finishing the day off listening to my new Andrea Bocelli CD and sipping a glass of red.
