Cabbage

Started by: priscus (inactive)

Anyone got any interesting cabbage recipes that they would care to share on here?

Usually I just have cabbage steamed/boiled, or fried with onion and spices (Cajun style). Possibly as a filling in spring roll or stuffed pepper. (Also I chop my own coleslaw with white cabbage.)

For many years, I would not eat cabbage. I read summut by Delia, said that people professing this had usually been put off by school dinner cabbage which was mostly stalk, being rejected remains from catering business being fed to kids.

She was right. When I tried again, with her recipes, and good quality ingredients, it went from being abhorred to being a favourite.

So I am keen to learn new recipes.

This sort of question, I expected Google would be good at answering. Alas, Google is a disappointment in respect of this!

My favourite cabbage recipe :-

Take one cabbage.
Cut it up into slices, then cut across the slices turning them into cubes.
Get a pan out of the cupboard.
Put the cabbage into the pan.
Then (and this is the important bit) open the back door, go outside, and empty the contents of the pan directly into your green bin.
That's where cabbage belongs!

I used to think the same way.

Not any longer, though.

nature is the answer, caterpillars love cabbage, so much so they named a butterfly after the cabbage, So the deal is this in my garden, I grow cabbage and i let the caterpillars eat it, if they touch my tomatoes, I'll kill the buggers and never grow cabbage again, they seem to understand the deal, and we get on very well
