disgrace

I have been thinking this last couple of days about that complete nonsense that takes place in Harry's bar every year known as the world pie - eating contest, and think it should be abandoned ,firstly it is a travesty that fat blokes should be seen shoving pies down their gobs with the present climate of People sleeping in the streets ,and People visiting food banks ,it is immoral to see this charade every bloody December, also it's yet another mickey take on Wigan amd Wiganers, why do the People of Wigan tolerate this every year ,it should be bloody done away with now

Tony Callaghan will do anything for publicity he's been on Four in a Bed and Judge Rinder arguing about pies also tried to get a pie launched into space. As you know peawapp the Wigan Pie Eater nickname is nothing to do at all with pies is it.

He didn't try, he really 'did' send a pie into space

Just think how much nicer it would be if replaced with a pie making contest.

Prizes for best home made, and for best commercial.

Could be quite an event.

Folk scoffed when Bradford said it would bid for tourist industry trade on the basis of Asian Food, but they were startlingly successful.

Don't see why Wigan could not do likewise with pies.

peawapp,
You will have to LOBBY your local council (based in Wigan) to see if you can get a similar event. Merry Christmas and good luck next season.

Sending a pie into space was a big con-trick and Wiganers, being Wiganers, believed it!

merry Christmas broady and everyone else on here ,I tend to moan because I reside in Leyth ,under the worst and most Autocratic Government since the Evil Thatcher administration, plus the worst Council in the U,K , so I have a right to moan when I see stupid fat blokes stuffing their chubby faces whilst People go hungry

Peawapp, I will cut you some slack as I've had some dealings with the Wigan Council over problems in Leyth and you're definitely seen as vassal state (Rees-Mogg) of Wigan! Console yourself with the fact that they don't seem to be ruining your market like they have in Wigan!

they've bloody ruined everything in Leyth ,including the Market, they have got the bloody place gridlocked every day ,can't bloody move ,from where I live in wigan road I used to take my granddaughter to work at My dentist in new market street in wigan 7 miles away, then she got a transfer to my dentist in Leyth 1 and a half miles away ,and believe it or not I was getting to wigan quicker than I was getting into Leigh ,they are useless the useless self serving bunch of bloody fools,

Owd on a minute peawapp, yon Leigh Market is in a much better state than Wigan Market and I know it has about four of those Asian mobile phone stalls, but so does everywhere else, Leigh Market is alright and I will tell yoo what the problem with traffic in Leigh is and that is Parsonage Retail Park and that monstrosity of a junction, which they built to replace kamikaze roundabout, those two things have rooined the bypass and the knock on effect spreads into Leigh Town Centre

Tommy two stroke
you are I'm afraid incorrect, Leigh market is terrible ,and the trouble with Leigh being gridlocked is that Wigan road needs a road off to the left across the edge of the Marsh playing fields, to emerge behind Asda and a continuation of the road from the comical mini roundabout at the Sportsman to end up at Leigh sports village, the trouble is that our brain dead Council planners have blocked every exit road off Wigan road by bollards forcing all traffic to stay on Wigan road ,until they reach the Sportsman, I have of course mentioned this perfect problem solver to my Councillors but in reply they attempt to give me the old Wives tale that " oh we can't touch the Marshes because it was left to the People of Leigh for recreation purposes, by Miss Marsh to which I always reply " rubbish didn't she also leave the Leigh swimming baths to the People of Leigh and it didn't take the Coucil long to grab the Wilkinson's shilling did it ,and come to think of it didn't She also leave the Marsh Gymnasium to the Leythers, need I go on, that is why on voting day I always vote in both General and local elections, in General Labour , but in local Independent

I read that it was the "Save our Marsh playing fields" group, the local residents who managed to stop the road being built,I believe the road would be a great help though, but I also reckon Leigh market is loads better than Wigan market.

I like that little roundabout where the Sportsman was its a big improvement on the traffic lights that caused all the traffic jams up Wigan Rd often resulting in me taking the rat run on the right. But kamikaze roundabout near the Railway pub is very confusing and bloody hard work.

Get yourselves a proper whatever-you-call-it.

There are times when it results in a complete absence of gridlock, such as when failure of the lights' control system occurs!

Been up this way for about 5 years priscus so not sure if it changed much. I know they added the other roundabouts further up the road. Always seems to be roadworks or gridlock when i drive down that way.
