litter

Started by: derek (391)

Every morning I walk my dog on the park and I have one of those litter picking sticks and as I walk around I pick up litter from the day before, crisp packets, energy drink bottles, haribo packets and cans its what the kids have chucked away the night before. Its no bother and it helps keep the place tidy but a couple of days ago the was a full carrier bag of household rubbish thrown at the back of some bushes. Now someone has had to walk passed two or three litter bins to get to these bushes so why not put it in the bin. Can anyone explain the logic to me because I cant see the sense in that.

Derek, plenty people have no respect for any thing or anyone.Litter is thrown away all over the place no matter how many bins there are.I would never pick up other peoples litter from the street even though it really annoys me.

Hi derek, school children heading for deanery on frog lane call into shops on their way from all sides of town purchasing their sweets, pop, etc, then discard it on floor I have witnessed this every morning going to work, they have no respect and will abuse you if you confront them, I also noticed that some dog owners not them all do not remove their pets excrement from pavements, walkways when it's dark thus leaving it to be dodged or stood in if you're unlucky, these mindless people make your blood boil.

well done derek for looking after your community space. Last week my bother was walking past a car stopped at traffic lights when a banana skin flew out. so he picked it up and threw it back in the car. he got abuse and more rubbish.

Some disgusting creatures around these days. Do parents not teach their children not to litter any more.

Some years ago I was driving along in a line of traffic we came to some traffic lights and we all stopped on the red light. While waiting at the lights the drivers door opened door then closed again but no one got out. When the car pulled away there was a glass milk bottle in the middle of the road. !!!

I started picking up litter because of the amount of those small aluminium gas cannisters that were being left overnight, these get pressed down into the grass and do not degrade so if we don't pick them up they will be there forever. The bushes around the park act as huge air filters so when its windy and plastic bags and paper is blowing about they get trapped in the trees and it looks a mess. Its not a big deal to collect a bit of litter while the dog is mooching about. The biggest problem on our park is with these shelters the council erected some time ago. They attract teenagers at night making a racket leaving rubbish broken bottles setting fire to wheelie bins. I contacted the MP and suggested they be cut down but it fell of deaf ears.

I pick up any bottles that I see as kids tend to smash them on the footpaths.

I do not pick up litter because I once picked up a bag of syringes and needles.

retep1949 that's why I have a litter picker you never know what inside bags. I picked up half a bottle of vodka last week near the shelters.

The place where the cop car used to hide, concealed by a hedge, from which to chase errant motorists, had a pile of litter four feet deep where they had jettisoned their plastic cups and food packaging!

Thanks peterp, I know the enforcement officers used to get abused and threatened whilst doing their duty but I haven't seen council around Wigan doing this job.

The Asda boy racers just dump their Maccies waste out of their car windows...anywhere.

And they drive around in pairs...

An old song from long ago comes to mind on that one...
